I own two. One in 9x19 the other in 40 S&W. Very reliable guns. Effective range is about 100 yards, a little farther with the 9mm. Accurate for a gun firing pistol caliber ammunition. As long as you stick with factory mags you should not have any problems. Avoid Pro-Mag magazines for the Hi-Point. The Hi-Points have very good open sights.

I dont own a hi-point but I did get to take a friend to my gun club who had just bought a new one. I enjoyed shooting it, but we had to spend about 45 min. screwing with the feed lips on the mag to get it to quit jamming. after that it was reasonably reliable and fairly accurate. I think they are probably better guns than most people give them credit for. I must say it would make the top ten All Time Ugliest Guns list. For the money though, I would rather trick out a Ruger 10/22, I'm just not a big fan of pistol-caliber carbines.
