deldgeetar 0
I got my Saiga 7.62x39 today. It has the 16 inch barrel. This thing looks badass! However, I notice it is covered in and stinks of oil of some kind. I am curious how you folks cleaned your guns up and what you used. Also, where should this gun be oiled after cleaning? I have a Glock that requires only a couple drops but am not sure if the Saiga requires more attention. If you can show me, even better! I am familiar with the field strip through the WASR video posted here, but want to know your methods for cleaning. Thanks for all your help!
vjor 2
Take gun apart, get hoppes number9, clean barrel, clean gas tube, clean receiver, clean bolt carriers, clean bolt, grab wife ( or GF ) ass if she is around, go back to gun, after the gun is clean nice put it back together, no oil needed, dry as a bone, if you want some stuff use dry lubricant on receiver, make sure firing pin is free, on 7.62x39 firing pin is free floating. After you fire the gun for the first time, the piston gets really nasty on the front burn powder, use small brass wire brush to clean it plus more hoppes number 9. Some people use never seeze or oil on receiver big no no on receiver it does nothing for gun just acumulate dirt and crap on it, if you live in cold weather Zone were winter gets really cold if the gun is dry ( meaning no oil or any other crap on receiver ) the gun will never freeze on you, even if goes from inside home to really cold weather out side weather. Tip to clean gas tube, use 12 gauge brush and wad or rag with more hoppes number9. The gun will work even if not clean after long use, like my guns clean but the nature of the gun is to work even if not clean after really long use and abuse. Good luck and welcome to Saiga world. I use it on the barrel, bolt and the end of the gas rod, even though I cant get the gas rod spotless. I use rem oil on everything else...is that a mistake?

I dont use oil, I have use dry teflon on FCG, but in the same way my guns have been drag true mod and sand some times, plus have seen burn powder on face of bolt and front of receiver as I clean it, well oil on receiver cakes sand that and other crap, if you want the front of the gas piston clean use a wire brush, I have few small brass wire brushes plus steal ones, I like to use the brass ones on the piston, I dont think oil will screw the gun if it goes from range to home and home to range, plus it gets clean after use, but if you going to use your gun on sandy or places were dirt will get to it, and it will get into receiver, dry receiver is a solution to no problems. So far my oldest 7.62x 39 saiga has like about 7000 rounds more or less true it and no signs of wear and tear on receiver parts, and few malfunctions true its life, must of it cause some cheap old ammo I found but apart form that it keeps ticking and clicking even if have torture abuse and use like a work horse, no contemplations on this rifle it still works like it supposed to work. One thing because is a cheap rifle don't mean it don't have to be clean and maintain like any other gun, if you take care of it, it will take care of you. So your reccomendation is not to oil it, vjor? I figure I should oil the bolt carrier since it slides back and forth, but other than that I would leave it dry.
vjor 2
LIke I say bro, I dont oil my, but is up to you is your gun, not mine, every body will tell you something different. Any way if you going to use oil, use break free instead, let it dry and wipe it out, even after it is wipe a really fine film will be on the surface of the metal a lot less mass if crap gets on receiver rails. By the way wipe the inside of the receiver for burn gun powder all the time with gun cleaner, you will be surprise how much burn powder goes all over the inside of the receiver especially if you pop large quantities of ammo true the gun, like receiver cover, bolt and bolt carrier and the front trunnion.
