Is the x39 firing pin supposed to be spring loaded?

Recommended Posts

All 7.62 x 39 that I have seen are free float, I have never see one go off

and I have slam bolts on AK really hard and I mean hard, but at same time

must AK I have use had ester block ammo not American made

the ex com-block ammo supposed to have hard caps.

But will be interesting to find out if some one had any slam fire or drop

there gun and it go off.

This is a question that I've had as well. From what I can gather on the subject is basically what Vjor said. East block ammo such as Barnaul, Wolf etc. have harder primers than domestic ammo. Right now for the most part Wolf is the primary supplier of ammo for the AK rifle in the US so it's not an immediate issue.

However, for safety sake I would rather have a spring loaded firing pin, but don't know where to get them or what to buy. Is there any experienced AK builders reading this that would care to comment? Thanks in advance.

I was actually coming in here to ask about that. I really really really dont like the fact that the firing pin is free floated. Ive lurked here a long time and I guess never noticed anyone make a big deal about it. But I know when I fire a round, pull the mag and eject the round that was chambered, 100% of the time there is an indention in the unfired primer from the firing pin. That has for all intents and purposes made this a range only toy for me.

Does anyone have an alternative for this? Saiga has a unique bolt and firing pin right? I know its completely different than a bulgarian one I compared it to.
