308 Saiga---Chrome Silicon vrs. Std. Music Wire Springs

Recommended Posts

I understand that all Saiga rifles use the same recoil-spring and that, no matter the caliber, it's a regular ak recoil-spring. FalcomArms sells ak recoil-springs/all spring sets/etc. made from what they call "chrome silicon" rather than regular ak springs made with "music wire". They claim 3 x the life expectancy & better each step of the way! I'm thinking "308"--- could only be beneficial. ----Do we "trust blindly" that the gas system of all Saigas is "well- thought" and tuned to each application? Have "chrome silicon" recoil-springs been used personally? Did the "feel of ignition" noticiablely differ?

Its interesting that after all of these years I never heard of the is stuff but recently I have been looking more into replacing all mu springs with the chrome silicon.

I know its been quite some time since you posted this thread but have ever taken the step to using these springs with Saiga's?  Looking for any personal experience using them.

I remember back when chrome silicon springs were the latest and greatest thing available for mags. Reason being that they only take set the first time they are compressed. In other words they don't weaken from being compressed and decompressed like stainless steel springs. When they reach the end of their life, they just break.

But here's the reason a lot of people moved away from chrome silicon springs. It's normal for them to develop a coating of rust in a short amount of time. I don't know that their have ever been a good fix for that. A lot of folks decided it's not a good idea to use something rusty in their rifles.
