Magwells for Saiga-12, stick mags and drums!!!!

Recommended Posts

Video of it in action!

Here are some pics of the magwell installed. The mags go in very smooth. It is very nice. I'm telling you, a whole new world. This is going to make thing so much quicker to reload. Mags will drop when release is hit. An extended mag release will be key. I will also shoot a video showing just how easy it is. I will be making to different versions, one will be just for stick mags and the other will be for sticks and drums. There will be some very good and key improvements on my 2 models over the factory version. I meant to take some pics of the factory mag made for the magwell but forgot. I was thinking more of the importance of showing that it can take other mags. But I did mean to take some of the factory mag for it along with the difference in the follower. I will take some and also one of the original Russian 8 installed. Hope you like the pics for now. Better will come, including videos.

Ok, I can't take it anymore-one gun part porn photo after another from you. I'm just this very moment going out to the shop to do my conversion. And now yet another "must have" part.

I typically avoid 1st generation production items, but after reading the extensive posts/threads on the whole drum development saga I'm going to your website right now and ordering a drum, and I want a magwell too dammit!

Thank god!

No more dealing with BS overseas sellers that take 6 months or more to fill your order.

I am hoping you can eventually get to some stick mags for various saiga shotguns, as well as the 308.

Thanks for stepping up!

So this can take my factory mags, AGP mags and your drum? I got to tell you, that is better than I had hoped for! Think they'll be ready to put under my Christmas tree?

There will be a version that will take both sticks and drum. I will have the stick only version out first but don't now if it will be in time to put under the tree. It will be close.

mike how much modification do you have to do to the gun and the

mags to make this work. i'm not much of a gun smith

good luck on all your projects

There was a time when I thought the same thing, but that was before I ever tried! Don't cut yourself short. It does require mods to both the gun and the mags but they are very simple (easier and less work than doing a conversion).

Oh great, another must have. Where do I send my pay check this week! All jokes aside, how about one for the S308 too...

Is the push button release on the opposing side?

There is no push button release. If there was it would be an even farther reach than the original release and would take away the benefits of a hands free mag drop. An extended mag release will be key for speed (Jeric sells them). Unless you have really long fingers. I can reach the release with my middle finger but it isn't to comfortable.

About the .308, I am going to look into the other saigas as well to see if a magwell would be feasible. The .410 will be iffy. There are a few different kinds of mags for it and might not work for it. You know how some of them go rearward kind of?

couple of questions:

1) how is the lockup on the mags?

2) does it feed reliably?

3) are there any other mods required to the mag other than shaving off the front lug?

I soo cannot wait for this mod!

They lock up nice and snugg. Feeds just the same. All the stick mag require their own different kind of mods. I will go into them later. I am still working on something that might eliminate the need to cut off the front mag catch.

A lot of people have been asking.... I am not sure what the price will be on the magwells yet. I am guessing around $50. That price is not set in stone and very well may change. But it will be in that close area.

I've done it again! I've designed something that will release the bolt from the locked position. Whether your BHO open is Jeric's automatic or a factory manual this will work either way. No more grabbing the bolt carrier to release it. This with the magwell is going to be a great combo! That's all I want to say for now and don't want to go into the design or specific function yet. It is simple, reliable and will be low cost. Coming to a Saiga-12 near you!!!!! :super:

Sounds like another great idea. Now my friend get back to work on my drum so I can scare the bejeebers out of Gary with my official public thank you notice. I have been practicing, so I am ready when you are. :)

It won't be long now. I am waiting on the molds myself. I have to do something hear and there to relax and take my mind off things and what better way to play than working on my saiga. My girlfriend hates me! :lolol: Even when I'm not working...., I'm working.

This could be huge if you get this to work on all the saigas. Then we wouldn't have the AR fans crying about the rock and lock for the ak.

You're exactly right. I never considered my self to be whiny about it, but I would much prefer the straightforward magazine insertion style of my AR, Steyr AUG, H&K, and every other box magazine style weapon that I own. If you look at the threads about competition and shooting under stress, I believe that you will find most in agreement that the rock and lock is what slows most folks down. If we lived in a country where AK style was all that was available I am sure that we would all become quite proficient but in this instance I would prefer to not cross-train. I love my Saiga 12's enough that I overlook (temporarily) what is for me a major fault. Just my humble opinion.

Wait, let me put on my flame retardant suit first.....there.

Call me a heretic, but I worked hard to get away from Saiga-specific mags and to be able to use any AK mag on the street (figuratively or literally!) in my Saiga AK. As appealing as the idea of a magwell and drop free mags sounds, I'm not real keen on the idea of having to modify my AK mags to make it work. Right now I can grab any mag and throw it in either of my AK's. Having something that only works in my Saiga doesn't really motivate me. I don't object to making the mods to the gun itself irreversible (hell, I already cut off the tang!) but I don't like the idea of it needing special mags.

I know -- if I don't like it I don't have to install the mag well. Just consider this a vote in favor of a magwell that works with any standard mag.

Jim
