Well my chest is all puffed out and my head is swollen up like a pumpkin as I just took 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in 4 out of 5 Turkey Shoot matches with my 22" Saiga 12 :)

Once I got on target the Saiga showed it had one of the best patterns with #8 low brass of any of the competition which included some rather fine Berettas, Benellis, Winchesters, Remingtons etc.

Lots of the competitors had never even seen a Saiga before and it got lots of compliments.

I missed winning the side of beef and a side of bacon by one pellet in the 10 ring. :( Both of those were won by a 30" bolt gun.

Anybody for 20+ pounds of Ham? I'm gonna stuff this pork leg with greens. (Old Southern Maryland recipe)

Sweet man that's good news! I've been thinking about taking Racegal down to the good ol boys turkey shoot down the road from me and letting her shoot my 22" camo S-12 while give it a go with my AKS-12 just for shits and giggles. Can't wait to see the looks on their faces.

Congrats on the Turkey Shoot! I have noticed that my S-12 19" gun has an unbelievably nice tight pattern at 50 ft.. I told a buddy about it and he didn't believe it... I loaded up w/ 12 ga. 2 3/4 in. 00 Buck and shot the bottom of a barrel at that distance and the pattern was just slightly bigger in total than the size of a soccer ball.. (Beautiful) Anyway thanks for the tip, the next Turkey Shoot I do at the club, I will take the Saiga.. ehehe

Thanks guys,

Last week my aim was off....I thought the pattern was crappy but I was shooting low/left. Once I got on target the pattern was tight and dead on balls.

Choke was checked twice and found OK/Full and no more.

Weird thing is that this Saiga throws 00 Buck AND slugs dead on and to point of aim without any high/right holdover.

Bambi, you're next.

What kind of buckshot was you using. If you really want to impress your friend pick up some Speer Law Enforcement 8 pellet 00 buckshot. Out of a 19" it averages a 5 inch pattern with no flyers at 25 YARDS (75 feet) and at 50 yards (150 feet) it was averaging 12 inches ( good enough to put them all in the chest). I have heard that the Federal Law Enforcement buckshot has similar patterns but is 9 pellet. I haven't had a chance to pick any up for testing though.

Maryland stuffed ham. St. Mary's Landing used to have it as the centerpiece of their Sunday buffet.

Heck,

Only places you can get stuffed ham seems to be St. Mary's County Maryland.

Recipe follows (Guys this is GREAT food!)

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

-------- ------------ --------------------------------

12 pounds Ham -- country cured

3 pounds Kale

3 pounds Watercress

2 pounds Cabbage -- green

1 bn Celery

1 Pepper -- hot red

6 tablespoons Salt

5 tablespoons Pepper -- black

2 tablespoons Pepper -- red

2 tablespoons Mustard seed

2 tablespoons Celery seed

2 teaspoons Tabasco sauce

Choose a plump, thick ham with a thin layer of fat. Parboil 20 minutes.

Steam and remove all skin. Cut greens in small pieces (1" to 1 1/2").

Chop celery and pepper fine. Blanch greens, celery and pepper in boiling

water until limp; drain well. Add seasonings and mix. Cool ham until

you can handle it comfortably. Starting at the butt end of the ham, cut

three lengthwise slits, 2" long, all the way through. Second row--two

slits. Third row--three slits, so that one slit for stuffing does not

split into another. The ham is now ready to be stuffed. With your

fingers, push the seasoned greens into slits first from the top, then

from underneath, until you can feel all the spaces have been filled. The

remaining greens are banked over the top of the ham.

To keep the ham in shape, use a large square of clean cloth. Place ham,

skin side up, on the cloth, fold the ends over tightly and pin.

Return to ham boiler and simmer 15 minutes to the pound. Let cool for

two hours in the pot liquor. Chill in refrigerator overnight, in its

cloth.

Maryland stuffed ham. St. Mary's Landing used to have it as the centerpiece of their Sunday buffet.

My mom attended St. Mary's College in Maryland, grew up in Nanjemoy (sp?) on a farm just a few miles from the Potomac River. Maryland has the best crabs btw. It's a shame that, as my uncle says, "you can't use rifles in Maryland to hunt, they say the land is too flat, but that's a bunch of crap." They use 20ga and 12ga to clear the deer out of the corn fields..... if it weren't for the constrictive gun laws, Maryland would be a fine state.

Indeed. My wife went to buy a Romanian AK. Usual background checks (FBI AND State Police), Firearm training course and 10 day waiting period.

When she went to pick it up the gun store would not give her the magazine as Maryland has 20 round max.

So she went through all that crap for.....(Drum Roll................)

A single shot rifle.
