M118LR Ammo for Saiga .308

Recommended Posts

Haven't shot it in a saiga, but for what it's worth: every load that the M14 likes, my S-308 likes just as well. Considering that's the gun that M118 Special Ball was made for, I'd be confident with it. It should use a 168 grain Sierra Match King at about 2650 fps. A similar load made by hand shoots well in my saiga. I don't remember how well, but I was pleased with the results at 100 yards.

Seen this around the web for sale. Supposed 10" groups at 1000 yards.

Anyone shoot his from a Saiga 308 with 22" barrell.

Accuracy and at what yardage?

I'm looking at 200-350 yards.

Performance wise, it's on par with Federal Gold Medal Match ammo...both use the Sierra MatchKing HP bullet. The Federal has a bit more energy than the M118LR, and I find that it performs a slight bit better in my Rem 700. Beyond that, the Federal is a cheaper on the wallet to shoot.

I haven't shot a .308 Saiga, yet, but you should see 1/2 MOA accuracy with either in a good rifle. Personally, I'd grab a box of each and see which works best in your rifle.

Edit - We plan to shoot both of these type of ammo out of a Saiga .308 in our March shootout. I'll be happy to report the results after the shoot.
