topmaul 42
Who is most responsible for today's popularity of the Saiga, the purpose of this thread is for nominations then once we identify the canidates we'll set up a poll. I nominate Kevin at AGP Arms, without him I doubt Saiga popularity would be half what it is today.
BUFF_dragon 3
VanKiller and the internet in general..... I first learned about Saiga's existance from watching videos on YouTube and site like it
loki0629 55
I nominate Google. Seriously, that's how I learned about Saigas (searching for reviews) and eventually led me to this site. By the time I'd signed up for the forum I'd already purchased my .308. If I can't nominate a website how about the guy that put the cross-conn conversion site together?
dodgeturbointerceptor 1
Well. I heard about Cobra 76 two, and Wolverine, Bvamp, IndyArms from alot of people perusing the site. Their attitute kept people here, which made people enjoy saigas, and learn. CDNN had the best prices back in the day when available....period. hmm... Most of my knowledge is older. Tromix will spread the pictures around. But very few will pay for an SBS. So it will have limitations. I know a shitload of folks that bought somewhat overpriced from Atlantic(RedJacket made) cross-conn was definitely seen by anyone who wanted to convert for about 6 years straight. wally 2
not to trash this thread,I think the net has alot to do with the crazy price of saigas wasnt that long ago any of them went for $200,thanks to youtube, myspace and other sites,Im thinking all of the bump firing pics work like viagra a.ka. mycoxafloppin
fasdfs 5
I don't think that any one person deserves credit, as it took the efforts of a large number of people--consumers and people in the industry--to make the Saiga-12 take off like it has. I took a brief interest in S12s back in '02, but I hated the fact that they were neutered with the sporter configuration and 5-round mags, so I didn't look into them too much. It wasn't until '06 that my interest was revisited. I'm not sure how, exactly, I came across this site, but I do know that it was seeing pictures of Tony's guns that made me realize what a fool I had been for having ignored Saigas. It didn't take long for me to realize, "holy shit, this is the most badass shotgun ever made in the history of everything ever," and go buy one. I'm not trying to brag (LIAR!), but I went from ordering mine to shooting it in less than two weeks, and I was hooked after my first birdshot magdump. My next two gun purchases after my S12 were a 7.62x39 Saiga and an S308. So you can definitely thank Tony Rumore for getting me into the scene.
dodgeturbointerceptor 1
LOL Yeah. Maybe everyone has done worse for saigas.....LOL I miss 314.00 for a shotgun, and 189.00 per rifle
wally 2
sept. of last year at Stanleys a 308 was $269 bought one,I saw him at the ATL gunshow last weekend they went to $369 for the same 308 W.T.F
Eric Pate 478
Personally I'd have to nominate AGP for my #1 with the sunsetting of the AWB as a close second. I first heard about these guns back in about 2001 but with no way to convert it and virtually no source of spare mags, let alone hi-caps, I never persued the idea. It wasn't till I talked to a guy about the new AGP mags that I got back online and realized that a pretty good following had sprung up after the AWB sunset.
Cobra 76 two 2,677
I nominate Makc and this website. Without him it wouldn't be here. Without this website there are a LOT of people who would not know jack about Saigas.
topmaul 42
yes you have a point Cobra, I was thinking that too, this forum is a go to place for a lot of shooters who don't currently own a Siaga. Hard Core Remington guys from my gun club stop by here often to see what we are up to, intelligence gathering missions I guess.
nissantech 0
i found out about saigas from my friend and then i bout a s12 and s308. wanted both of them before prices went up anymore. This web site has taught me so much that i dont know what i would have done or not known without all opf you. It is a group effort!!!!!!!
joelrod47 373
I nominate Makc and this website. Without him it wouldn't be here. Without this website there are a LOT of people who would not know jack about Saigas. That's right !! +10 to that !! Don't even remember where I first heard or read about that AK shotgun, but the first place that I found when I began to look was this Forum........ Saigas are impressive just as they come out of the box, but the Saigas you see here, both by our craftsmen and our do-it-yourself'ers, are like nowhere else .............. I found TROMIX through this site, too.................. So, I'll second...........Thanks, Makc !!! Edited February 2, 2008 by Jeaux E
Superhawk138 202
I always wanted an AK but I wanted a true Russian AK. I saw a X39 at my local store and noticed it was of the Kalashnikov action but the trigger and stock were different. I went home and googled saiga and i saw cross conn and of course this forum. I saw the saigas potential and went and bought it, put a few rounds through it and followed cross conn and did my conversion, now the addiction has set in. +1 CrossConn +1 MAKC and +1 Mr Kalashnikov
G O B 3,516
I first saw an S-12 in CDNN, ordered one at the next funshow. Found this forum doing search for more info. So CDNN getting my attention and Makc for doing the most to feed the need (for all things Saiga).
USP40 1
I nominate Makc and this website. Without him it wouldn't be here. Without this website there are a LOT of people who would not know jack about Saigas. I second that.
dodgeturbointerceptor 1
Yep. Add me to the Makc list!
ragnarock47 10
I can't say for sure Topmaul, but without any uncertainty, these forums are a LARGE part of the popularity. As Cobra stated above, without these forums, people wouldn't know squat about them add to that a lack of accessories. Makc & Bvamp +1. A co-worker of mine was at the gun shop we both frequent. The owner showed Mike a S12 and a S410 that were ordered and not picked up. Mike bought them both. He showed them to me, and I ordered a S12. EAA era. I found these forums after my purchase. Motopilot1 37
AGP w/o that who would want a 5 shot shotgun
badman400 3
This forum is what turned me on to Saigas. Thanks guys.
Franky 2
I nominate Makc and this website. Without him it wouldn't be here. Without this website there are a LOT of people who would not know jack about Saigas. Ditto, 76 two.
nib 1
For me it was Having Valmets----Tromix Valmet converted Weigers-----Tromix web site------=2 Tromix S-01 and one converted by Rising Sun Tactical. The next batch of Saiga 12 owners are going to thank Wraithemaker due to its early advertisement in SG NEWS. I have 3 saiga's and my 2 Wraithemakers do not fit in any of them. Or in my friends 2 Saiga's. so for $500.00 I can have the RELIABILITY service done. Or for 300.00 get MD drums.
Cobra 76 two 2,677
AGP w/o that who would want a 5 shot shotgun I WOULD. Whether it's two rounds or twenty, the S-12 is the best shotgun availabe IMO. ...and I'll never thank wm for anything...
Paladin 37
I thought Saiga's were butt ugly when I first saw them, but when I saw Tony's site and watched the video of one putting 8 shells in the air at the same time I was sold! Then I found this site and I have been buying them and parts for them ever since. So +1 for Tromix and +1 for Makc
dry_gulcher 0
Definitely +1 for this site, as well as CDNN, when I was looking to order one a few years ago ($225 picked up from the gun shop for a 12 ) Might want to add one for videogames too, I know it's at least in a Battlefield game, and that could have drummed up a bit of interest
mike12345 18
I wouldent have bought a saiga unless i could buy it converted. I knew little about the AK47 except how to field strip and operate it mostly because I dident own one, so I wasent going to try converting one myself. I would now that I know more about it. I say Tony Rumore Is the biggest factor in SAIGA 12 popularity.
22_Shooter 1,560
I agree with everything said here. Many things have contributed to the popularity of Saigas. This site, without a doubt has a big part in that. Any other forum you go to, people ask about Saigas, and at least 1 person posts a link to this site. My only complaint about the popularity of Saigas is that I didn't hear about them sooner. I just looked up my very first post here, and I was asking about Saigas, and contemplating getting a WASR . That was almost a year ago, and I've learned so much from this place and it's members. Just for shits & giggles, here my first post ever : Posted on: Mar 19 2007, 11:44 PM Hey all, new to this forum, looks very informative. I'm in the market for my first AK and was considering the WASR-10 because of the price. But then I started reading about the Saiga in 7.62x39........and now I want one of these. My question is, are there any shops around Binghamton/Syracuse area that sell them? I know I can get them online, but I would like to handle one before I buy. Any help would be appreciated. 6500rpm 670
Makc and Bvamp for their innitial work on the board, CDNN for the great price back in the day, Cobra and Dinzag for their fine ass first builds (conversions) that got me (and a lot of others) hooked, then came Tony taking it to the next level, and AGP for finally coming through with the hi cap US mags. It was kind of a progression of things. As much as anything, it related to the end of the AWB and the ability to put a pistol grip back where it was meant to be. I think when EAA lost the import rights, things were just starting to take off, then people wanted what they couldn't have until RAA stepped up. Now word has gotten around and the three gunners are getting into the act and another level of progression is starting to take place. I think Mike D's products are going to give it another push once they're all released. If you go out of country, Jamshot and Team Shitbirds had it right from the get go.....we in the U.S. are just starting to catch up.
