numus 0
Hello Check this one out on Amazon Pormag AK=47 scope mount $24 The problem is the 18 dollars s/h... that is the same price as the POSP which is a quick release... now http://www.opentip.com/shopping_cart.php?o...95c46133ebf25f5 that is only 35 dollars.. is there any plus to having it non quick release? for the extra 6 bucks i might like the quick release feature unless it actually hinders performance Edited February 24, 2008 by numus
numus 0
2 of the mounts on the kalink says SDV rail.. what is SDV rail and does the saiga ak47 have this? they all say saiga and ak47 in the description but their appears to be 2 different types of rails... and i have no idea what the difference is or which one i have... also what do the 1,2,3 on the iron sights refer to? IMO, You can spend a lot of time and money trying the various mounts for the AK rifle and not be satisfied with the results. One ends up spending money for parts that just sit in a corner and not used as they simply don't work well with an AK rifle's design. The AK design is not as easy to scope as a bolt action rifle or even a M4-AR. The top cover is too loose to hold a zero unless you have it worked on. The side mounts sit way too high over the bore of the barrel and sometimes are not even centered. Granted, some side mounts are better than others. Of course this is my opinion/my experiences. I would recommend the Ulitmak scout mount and and a Aimpoint or a good Aimpoint clone. I do not know of hardly anyone that is unhappy with the Ultimak/aimpoint combination. The Ultimak/aimpoint combination is the only mounting system for the AK that is low enough to allow you to co-witness the red dot with the iron sights. numus 0
Ok so i got my mount today.. and it is the wrong one.. they sent me the low profile one instead of the high profile.. The low profile is really really nice, i just wanted to use the ironsights and the reddot instead of just the reddot.. here are some pics of them... Vultite 57
side receiver mount or http://www.gilbertsguns.com/Rifles/Saiga/S...eTop+Rail+Rifle i'm gonna try the beryl style mount myself...
oldandslow 3
I may be old school, but when I went through US Army basic training, we were taught to form a cheek weld with our hand just below the thumb. Now, I'm seeing guys with Saigas' holding their heads off the stock looking through their optics. Shooting fast and accurately requires a repeatable position. Now of course, my trigger hand is not touching the stock, so I cheek weld with the receiver cover. This requires a low optic mount. Try it. Stretch your head toward the receiver, there is a natural pocket below your eye that fits the curvature of the receiver cover. If you don't hold the gun solidly, it will bruise your face, but if you shoot enough, your face will get used to it.
vjor 2
I have use a lot stuff in my days, ultimak is good with a low red dot, I use it a lot I have a Russian PK-01 that the kids just fubar, it was mount really low to co-witness it with irons, I use 30 mm rings on it, the lowest rings I can find and that was that. Until my kid do me a favor, thinking the things was going to go into the oven for curing after camo when I was out, cook the thing at 200 degrees and well it burn the photocell LOL I guess that test how much heat it can take LOL. I have try a lot of stuff and the side mount clamps, yes they put the red dot high and like some one says some times to the side, but you can get a chic rest if you want to use one. I don't like to use permanent side rails, like the ones sold cheap on the net, if I pick a side rail, I get a Russian one, Tantal sale them for about 40 bucks you can dismount it real quick if need to use the irons. And like jbremount you can not go bad with that set up, but costly, but in the other hand you pay for what you get. And like oldandslow says the set up that jbremount says will give you chic weld to the butt stock same with the PK-01 and low mount rings.
numus 0
Alright got my correct mount in today.. the thing is awesome.. not to high but high enough that iron sights are useable.. I think it is time to admit that a reddot isnt going to cut it though on this weapon (i will put the reddot on the ruger mkIII and be done with that.. so now it is scope time.. What is a decent but not overpriced scope and what magnification should i be looking for (my real question is.. is the saiga 7.62x39 really that accurate or is a scope kinda a stupid idea?) terrace_mountain 0
I'm thinking about getting one of these. New Russian issue PSO-1 and AKM mount for $119 + S&H. Worth it or no?

taurussvt 0
I bought a used POSP 6X42 scope off the EE on Barfcom for about $110.00 shipped. The thing is really nice too. You can find them used pretty often for about that much or just spend the extra money and get a new one for about $150.00 It's got an integral mount, range finder, and bullet drop compensator made for the ballistics of the 7.62X39 bullet. That's about all I could ask for.

I went a little tiny bit cheaper route.. i bought this http://personalsecurityzone.com/cgi-win/or...ProductID=14980 i really like it so far (zeroed at 25 yards and only a little off right now at 100 so far on a rifle stand i was getting a very very small radius spread) the rings were another 20 bucks...
