BETA TESTERS INFO

Recommended Posts

I know we have all given some good reviews and related our experiences with the new drum. It is getting hard to follow though with all these different posts and such and all the different forums they are in.

I thought it would be a good idea to start one thread here in Mike's section where we can all convey pertinent information on what we are seeing with the drums and not just have fun showing them off. :D

Should have done this at the beginning I guess....

If you want to just copy and paste what you have said in the other threads and add to it if you like. This thread is intended for strictly technical data.

I'm going to do some tweaking on mine today, as per Mike's instructions after a few good conversations about it, and post the results here.

Any issues you want to talk about, good or bad, this is the place where we can all talk about them together and come to some good conclusions. If any of you have questions about anything you can post them here and get answers. Don't be afraid of advertising the drum in a poor light if you are having any kind of issues with it.

THAT is the purpose of a test run.

Can we please keep the postings in this thread among the BETA TESTERS ONLY? It is an information thread for reference. After we have all posted all our concerns and valid info here, it should answer about any questions people might have.

There is already a very lengthy thread (20 pages) where everyone can ask questions and get answers.

I'll start with a few ideas:

1. Secure lockup in different guns (or not) What models work best? Which don't?

2. Any feeding issues

3. Loading issues

4. Assembly issues

5. Parts durability

6. Any tips or methods that work best for us in loading the mag or loading it into the gun

7. Ammo types used (good or bad results)

8. Modifications

9. Informative pictures and video

10. Any other ideas?

Info to come soon...just wanted to go ahead and set the foundation first. I've got to do some stuff here and I want to discuss this with Mike and make sure he's all cool with this...

I suggest that Mike sets up a hotmail e-mail address for us to give him feed back that way our input will stay in one place and not get mixed up with the flood of e-mail and PMs he is getting.

That's exactly why I wanted to do this John. So we could all get on the same page with our concerns, fixes and all that and it would all be right here in Mike's forum, where he is the moderator and has full control over content.

He's already got enough to do.

Got my test drum today 032.gif It was raining pretty good but i couldnt resist and stepped out side the back door and I fired off 40rds of Fed birdshot,20 rds hi brass Fed OO buck and 10rds of Fed Hi brass slugs with no problem!!.Loading the drum was pretty tough tho,ill have to try the graphite on the dummy round and see if that helps.I ran into a problem..., i have a Warfield Armory (Jerics)LRBHO and had to cut the slot in the tower so the bolt hold arm wouldnt interfear.I found out there isnt much room to cut the opening before your into the slot that the dummy round rides in.I went slowly inserting the mag, checking clearance each time but ended up cutting to much(I f*cked it up) ,now my dummy round pops out sad.gif It still works/fires when its locked in the gun but i have to keep a round in it when its out of the gun 009.gif .The 8 and 10 rd mags have much more area that can be removed with no problem because of the follower stop is much lower in the mag,im not completly sure the Warfield Armory LRBHO can work for sure with the drum,if so the cutout will have to be very precise.Ill confure with Mike and see what he says.

Just wanted to add,my gun is a older EAA gun,22" chopped to 18 1/2"

Izzy,smells gun powder

Fired off 50 more rounds of Fed OO buck today....no problems, man thats fun! I did load the drum with the palm method and it was defenatly easyer to load, theres a knack to loading it for sure,im still going to put grafite or something on the drum sprocket teeth.I got nerve damage in my hands from putting off carpel tunnel surgery for way to many years,so lubing might make it easyer yet for us "handy"capped..yuck,yuck :P:rolleyes: Thats what swinging a hammer all your life gets ya.

MikeD has made an awesome product!!!! You guys waiting for the full production run will NOT be disappointed. Went to my "conversion specialist's" house to pick up my gun today and the drum arrived today as well. It is a bitch to load, but well worth the time. My gun is an IZ109 and I had it converted to pistol grip with Tapco T6 stock and my friend's gun is an IZ109 with KVar Nato stock. Both locked up great and ran. His better than mine since my dust cover decided to fly off. I fixed that after I got home with a big framing hammer!!! His gun ran two full mag dumps as fast as he could pull the trigger. We were both using Federal hunting loads. My gun would shoot 2-3 and then the cover would fly, but it worked! Pics and more posts to come.

Big hammer fixed my Saiga that I just had converted. No oil in gun, fresh conversion, first rounds shot Saturday when I picked this gun up and the first mag used was MikeD's drum. Today I ran another 40 rounds of Federal Heavy Field Load #6 1 1/8 oz loads(High Brass) with not even one malfunction. Drum locks in perfect and feeds from the very first round. I also shot some Remington Slugger 1oz slugs with no problems either. Here is what it looks like on my fresh conversion.

Another 100 rounds of Federal #6 and some Remington #6 Dove loads in a green and orange box. First time I ever used the Remys, but gun never missed a lick with the drum. Shot a few more Remy Sluggers also. Wanted to see what they would do on paper. Kinda weird. Last IZ109 would put 1oz slugs in the head of a target at 100 yds and these all shot 8" low, but I am also not sure if they were full power or low recoil. Oh well! Drum is still awesome.
