What to look for in a Saiga?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what the differences are between a WASR-10 and a Saiga. I have a WASR and am thinknig about selling it to a friend and converting a Saiga. Are they more accurate than a WASR? are the milled? Also when I am buying it is there things I should look for? Ik onw with WASR's you have to look for canted sights and wobbly magazine port. Are more Saiga's threaded? I know this alot but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Saigas are far better.

Are they milled? No

More accurate? Yes

Things to look for? I've heard of very few cases on canted sights on Saigas. Mag wobble should not be a problem. But as with any gun, if you can get your hands on it before you buy it, then you might as well check it over.

Are Saigas threaded? Nope. They don't come threaded from the factory, but Dinzag rents out a kit - http://www.dinzagarms.com/tools/tkr.html .

Hello

I have both and they both are great guns (in their own way)... The WASR is a depenable and very durable gun but not very accurate. The Saiga is very smooth (less recoil) with the 20 inch. Very accurate but high cap (low priced) mags are not as easy to come by. The quality and pride when building the gun is much higher with the Saiga.

Cant you with a little gunsmithing make them able to accept standard AK mags?

yes...with a little grinding on the mag catch lever you can use any standard AK mags.......this assumes of course that you have enough US made parts to be 922r compliant....which is typically called a "saiga conversion". Plenty of existing threads on both subjects.

Mayday

What exactly do you mean hi-cap mags are hard to come by? Regular AK mags are everywhere.

You also need a bullet guide (except with some mags. But for regular steel AK mags, you need a guide).

Yeah, use of hi-cap mags will require 922r compliance. There was a thread recently where someone said hi-cap mags don't require 922r compliance, but best to cover your ass.
