What's involved in cutting down barrel and threading?

Recommended Posts

I've got a long barreled Saiga-12 I'd kinda like to cut down and fit with a Polychoke. With the barrel being tapered, what's involved in cutting the barrel and getting it down to the right diameter for threading? I'd like to be able to do this myself, so removing the barrel isn't an option.

How long to start with? What is the planned final length? You may run into cycling issues requiring mods to the gas port holes. Barrel tapered? Are you sure? Wasn't aware of that. You can rent a die (22x0.75 metric) from Dinzag.

It's a 24 inch I believe. I got it shortly before I deployed. If I do cut it down, I'd like to cut it down to 19". I've been told there's some taper to the barrel.

The gas ports may need to be opened up for the gun to cycle properly. You might want to ask Tony at Tromix since he has the most experience with this matter.

Your 22" gun could have been made with 3ea .073" gas ports or 4ea .073" gas ports. Pull out your gas regulator and look in the gas block with a flashlight to check it. If you have 4ea ports, you can just cut it down and be good to go. If you only have 3, then you will need to press off the gas block and add one hole.......or just shoot full power ammo all the time.
