tjschul 0
Just received my Saiga-12 and have been looking it over. I've folded receivers and built a handful of various AK's so I'm tooled up for most everything related to these builds. My question is this: The trigger guard and mag release looks pretty hokey on the sporter. Can I just use a trigger guard assembly off of a Romy for instance, and just drill and attach with the five rivets? Is that doable or is the mag release going to cause me trouble? Thanks

If you decide to convert, you are going to want to leave your mag release alone. it is a Saiga 12 speciifc part unlike a generic AK style mag release. I have a virgin trigger guard without the mag release that I am going to use on my 2nd Saiga 12 one of these days. I am going to cut off the actual mag release and one of the forward pair of rivets. Then I will smooth it all out to allow the factory mag release to remain exposed and I will attach it with only 2 rivets on the forward aprt. But leave the mag release alone. The factory mag release is too wide to fit in between the sides of the Romy trigger guard sides which is why I will cut them off.
HillBilly2 9
Check out Cobra's thread on his AK-12. Also check out sKott's Saiga 12C conversion. Both threads have examples of what others have done.
localfiend 0
I used a romanian trigger guard on mine - but didn't want to mess with the mag release so I cut it off at an angle - in the same way Cobra did his. Works great, it just takes a bit of doing to crush the rivets with the Saiga's massive center support being in the way.
