MD_Willington 11
Thought the shroud didn't have enough "meat" to thread it.

kresk 10,063
To get back to the original question, you might need to flail at the FSB with a brass punch for a while to get it off, with or without applying heat first. Once in a while they are on so tightly it needs to be cut off and either replaced or rewelded.
jimbo2008 0
I am attempting to remove my front sight block to attach a compensator and I am having a problem getting it off I got the drift pins out but it is still pretty secure any tips? All AK,s sights are press fitted with a hydraulic press.... so this is not a delicate procedure, the only way to remove anything on an AK is to beat the holy living shit out of it with a mini sledge hammer. If you want to reuse the sight you will need to protect it with a piece of soft metal like copper or aluminum. But I think it's allot easer to just beat the hell out of it and get a new sight because even with protection it will usually be bent or some sort of damage. The most important thing is not to damage the barrel. Or you can get a hydraulic press from Harbor & Fright for around $100-$150 and press it off but I think it's a waste of $ unless you are doing multiple conversions because a new front sight is a lot cheaper and the original sight sucks anyway. Good luck

I saw photos somewhere..Of someone who used a wheel puller to pull the sight base...(Course..how you get it back ON I dont know.
larain60 0
The FSB can be a pain in the azz to remove. Best bet may be to cut it longways with a dremel - carefully and dont cut into the barrel!
Genocide 0
I recently took my FSB off, After breaking my gear puller on it, destroying 3 brass punches I finally gave up and just used a cutting wheel to get the damn thing off. Cut straight down at 6 o'clock, should've done it first....

Bayoupiper 738
Hmmm. I used a wood mallet and drove mine off with a few good raps on the back of the sight block.
taurussvt 0
Mine was a real bitch to get off too. I beat the ever loving shit out of it, mangled the fucking thing, and it still wouldn't slide off. I took a dremel to the bottom of it, cut a nice deep slit almost the whole way through it, took chisel, and smacked it a couple of times in the slit to make it pop apart. Once it was popped apart I was able to get it off, with a frickin' hammer. When I put the new FSB on I heated it with a plumbing torch for about 30 seconds and the thing slid on like butter. I aligned the holes with the grooves in the barrel and waited about 5 seconds for it to cool and it stayed in place. I let it sit about an hour and just punched the new pins in. I'm going to change my FSB again soon, but this one is a couple thousandths larger ID than the factory one, so it should come off with some mild persuasion. My original one had to have been about .010" smaller than the barrel for the craziest amount of interference fit I've ever seen.
g1rock 0
If you're still having problem removing you FSB you could use a Mapp Gas torch...They're sold at most home depots and lowes. Get it hot but not red Tap it of with a brass punch and install it by tapping down a piece of brass pipe fitted over the barrel with a hammer Sometimes heat is the only solution.
