Bossman 1
Well, here we go.I had posted this series at other boards but I wanted to wait until it was done to post it here.I have a saiga .308 and I converted it to take the fine red-star trigger set,I had initially installed a choate dragunov butt and modified a saiga polymer handguard to match but I longed for something unique. I fooled around with a MAK90 butt and the factory wood handguard and decided I liked the look of wood on this rifle rather than the black polymer, for Gods sakes I have enough black plastic guns it`s time for something different. I went to home depot and bought a sheet of birch plywood,$15 for a 2'x4' piece. I started with the handguard, rather than try to copy an exsisting design I went freestyle and just made what I thought woulkd look good and feel right in the hand. I cut a center piece and two side pieces. made them fit together to form a channel and scroll sawed the sides to give a little style,I drilled and dremelled some cooling slots while I was at it. Bossman 1
I contoured and sanded the handguard to feel good in the hand and mixed up a little stain to give it a Russian red color (one 8 oz. can of minwax red-oak plus one 1/4 oz. bottle of red testors model enamel)I used the factory attachment hardware and added a QD sling stud so I can use the harris bipod. I had originally intended to use a romanian PSL stock to finish the project but while I was waiting for the postman to bring it I got impatient and attempted to make a dragunovesque buttstock to match the handguard. I made it from two sides of the 3/4" plywood,it`s not perfect but I did learn a lot while making it,I will probably still strip and attempt to stain the romanian butt to match my handguard.I may have made the "legs" of my buttstock too thin,I`m thinking I might get a jagged piece of wood in my face when I fire it for the first time,I do have enough wood to make another, but by the end of this year I will certainly have a custom one of a kind saiga. comp21 0
where'd you get that bipod? I'd like to get one for mine just like it... also, (I'm new to this, bear with me), I tried getting my stock to come off last night by taking the screw out that's right behind the trigger and the screw out that's right above the first screw... it won't budge... HELP!! thnx Andrew
