DogMan 2,343
I'm wondering why we are not seeing more examples of barrel shrouds on s12. As far as looks I think it would add a lot and they have a real practical benefit, as well. Seems like a fairly easy item for someone to fabricate. Is there an issue with having one of these that I'm not aware of?
corbin 621
I imagine the main issue would be weight. You'd still want to be able to access the gas plug too, so the shroud would either have to stop short of covering it, or would have to be removable. Other than that, I can't see any downside to having them.

DogMan 2,343
Cobra sells one. Those are nice but I was talking about a tubular shroud that is slides over the end of the barrel then held suspended around the barrel by set screws to form a heat resistant grip surface. I've seen a picture of one on an S12 somewhere and it looked awesome. Seems like it could be made fairly lightweight or maybe there are ones made for other guns that would work. I'll try to find a photo.
DogMan 2,343
I just thought it might be a good idea to get one before someone in D.C. finds out what it is. "Its the little thing that goes up on your shoulder" Kudos to the interviewer who pushed her for an answer Edited January 21, 2009 by DogMan

I think I may have found something else that would work. There is an old AR15 bull barrel shroud that has been retrofited to an S12 before. I'm going to see if I can round one up and see how it goes. silentpoet 0
Are you talking about the shoulder thing that goes up?
Cobra 76 two 2,677
On the contrary dogman....I have a multitude of different sizes, shapes, and colors of dog turds in my back yard. I'll be more than happy to sell you all you want. It's even frozen right now so this is a good time. I can even hook you up with some cat turds for a lesser price. They might just "go up" just as effectively as a barrel shroud....lol. Seriously though...let me know if I can help you put something together. That's what I'm here for. I do not let silly crap that has to do with the silly section, effect my business dealings. Just ask adavid02
Cobra 76 two 2,677
It's not a new concept. Several members here have put shrouds on their S-12s. Look through the picture thread. If I was gonna do one, it would probably start out as something like this... http://www.gunaccessories.com/TacticalShot...arrelShroud.asp Or this... Or this... http://www.gunaccessories.com/TacticalShot...arrelShroud.asp
vbrtrmn 167
I thought the best line was: "I think... I think the more important thing is that it would have also had banned the large capacity clip..." I AGREE LET'S BAN LARGE CAPACITY CLIPS!
corbin 621
Yeah, I noticed the "clip" reference too. That ATI shroud looks pretty nice. Sights are a plus. The only thing I can see that might be a problem is accessing the gas plug with the shroud installed. Hmmmm..... Corbin Edited January 22, 2009 by Corbin
hallboss 1
Not to be a pain in the ass, but check your laws. In the state of CA, a shroud if even partially surrounding the barrel makes the weapon an EBR....stupid I know, but it would really be the shits if you took your saiga to the range and some dickhead gives you grief over a piece of tin. I wish I could have one.

I'm going to see how this AR shroud works first and if its not what I want we'll talk about making a custom job. That ATI shroud has possibilities. I'll be wanting one or two of those hand guards at some point, too.

I've seen them advertised as AR15 bull barrel shrouds but now I gather they are adapted to many differnt kinds of guns. The Veriforce and Ebay link you gave are no longer valid. I did find one other site that sells these for $70.00. That sounded a little high but I don't really know. What do you think? Also, do the set screws keep it tight on the barrel?
gtnichols 51
The first time I took it out It came loose and then I had to put Blue loctite on the set screws and it works great now, I use it to pick it up all the time.
corbin 621
Will that even fit an an S-12? I understand that they're 13.5" long. If put on the gas block, the rear of it would come back to the rear of the ejection port. IMO a similar setup that's like 8.75" long would be better for the S-12. DogMan 2,343
I picked this one up on Gunbroker today for $35.00. I don't think I can beat that anywhere. I'm going to see how it works out.
