nerohero 0
I recently bought a Saiga 16.3" .223, and this is my first .223 rifle. Can someone here tell me what is the "twist" of my Saiga's barrel, and which would be the more accurate bullet out of my rifle, a 55gr or 62gr? Thanks. nerohero
heron 0
The twist is 1:9. I've heard an opinion that the 62 gr will be a little better, but I haven't tested that yet; I've got both 55 gr and 62 gr on hand, just waiting for a break in the weather to compare them. mstranglr 9
RAA claims that they make them 1:10 twist rate for .223 Saiga. I did the patch tests with my 223 and keep getting a twist rate of 1:9.75. The twist rate was obviously done by metric standards so is not exact. This is a pretty slow twist rate for 223, so I would stay with the lighter bullets, 55gr is probably perfect for 1:10 twist. It will not stabalize the 77gr well. imarangemaster 315
Mine loves 62 grain Barnaul Silver Bear SPs and Golden Bear HPs. Haven't done target at 100 or more, but at 25 meter one ragged hole, and pop cans and pine cones dance at 100 from a casual rest. I am probably going to switch to 55s, though, since I built a retro 1/12" M16A1 (semi) with a Sako chrome lined barrel. nerohero 0
Thanks for the replies and info. I bought 2 10rd Surefire mags, switched the rear sight with a Mojo Micro-Click sight, and have ordered 500rds of Brown Bear 55gr FMJ. I'm looking forward to getting it to the range soon. nerohero
inparidel 4
Just FYI. . .both 62 and 55 work real well in the S-.223 (almost the same, which lends to the conclusion that it is close to 1 in 9). I find that match, or my handloads, in 55 gr. work best. "Best" equates to 2 MOA in my S-.233. I hope that helps. Edited January 26, 2009 by inparidel
