Saiga .308 pin-on/slip-on Muzzle Brakes

Recommended Posts

Hi I am a newbie to the Saiga12 forums. I have been reading up on muzzle brake options for my newly purchased 16" saiga .308. I have read several posts that describe some options regarding this, but I haven't had any definitive answers. Since threading is not an option for me I am looking for a Slip on or pin on option. I've also checked out dinzags site and he has said he does not offer a pin on brake for the saiga .308. Although he does have thread adapters on his site but i am assuming they are for barrels that are already threaded. I am not familiar with muzzle brakes and threading so any info or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and Hello!!! to the Saiga12.com community .

DPH is currently working on a muzzlebreak for the .308. They have them for the .223 and the x39. I can't wait until they get it in production! It is so easy to install without pins or threading the barrel. Go to the 223 forum and check it out. I have a thread there as well as one more. Greg at carolinashootersupply.com has the one for the 223, you can get an idea of how there made there. It is a two piece operation with one piece that is male threaded that clips over the front sight post and the break is female threaded and screws onto it. A solid, well built unit!

They will probably be similar to the 223. We will have them as soon as they are available.

I'm interested as well! I talked to Joe at King Armory today and he said if you guys showed enough interest it may be something they could tool up and make.

I also just posted a Poll to see how much interest in a brake with a front sight base and a brake without. I'd prefer the brake without myself as my Saiga .308 would only be shot with a scope, and I like the cleaner look. But some folks like the iron sight option.

Joe and another machinist I talked to who is familiar with the Saiga barrel both said the same thing, it's not a piece of cake to thread one.

Take you pick in the Poll and lets see if we can make this happen. Thanks, Paul

I pull this out again for interest. The top one is Russian Izhmash made for the Saiga-308. Just un-pin and press off your old FSB and press and pin this one on.

I can't seem to find these anywhere, RAA's main site doesnt offer them either. Thanks for the pics tho gives me a general idea of what they look like w the FSB.

So was this ever made for the .308?

We make our KA-1230 brake/suppressor in 4 different pin-on varieties, what is the muzzle diameter of your Saiga?

I recently purchased the SGM Tactical bolt on muzzle brake only to find out after purchase that the rifle must have a minimum of 3/16ths" of muzzle in front of the FSB. Otherwise they say do not install it. Mine is completely flush. I am awaiting a response from the dealer on how to proceed, in the meantime I thought I would post here for any advice/opinion from anyone who might know somthing about this. The installation went perfectly and the fit seems flawless. As contrasted to those posts I have read from people whose rifles are supposedly "ready". They are saying how they have to beat on it savagely with a rubber mallet, machine metal from the back of the FSB to fit the retaining bracket etc. It seems this product is a bit "early". They will be no doubt making some modifications to its design to favor one rifle config or the other.

The way I see it my choices are to return it and modify my barrel to accept a thread on muzzle brake or to perform nearly the same amount of mods to my rifle in order to make it work with this device. If anyone has insights into this I would welcome your response. I have seen that Dinzag Arms offer a service to modify the FSB "one pin back". It seems to me that if you ream out the FSB to allow it to slide backward over the bulge, wouldn't that leave too much slop on the front end?

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I have a question for you guys. I recently bought a shop converted saiga 308 with a long Tromix brake/suppressor which is pinned on. In doing this they removed the front sight...are there any options to put one back on? Here are some pics...the saiga is the one laying down of course..I will post some better ones when I get home...

Ive seen one somewhere that attaches to the gas block, cant for the life of me figure out where.

Post a query in the General section see if any one knows.

Sure SR would be short but its only a backup anyway in practical terms.

Would not mind that at all, pretty much expected. That is what my Vepr has too. Just think that not having a BU of some kind is a bad idea...will post some better pics soon now that it is weekend. Really cool suppressor.

That sucks, they kind of screwed you there.  The S308 front sight block is unique and basically made of unobtainium.  It has the largest ID of any AK FSB (so far as I am aware) where it goes around the barrel, so nothing else will work.  If you bought it from the shop that did the work, I would see if they still have the FSB.  They probably chucked it or sold it.

FWIW, after I heard rumors of the slip on brakes flying off, I had mine spot welded to the FSB by my gunsmith. Pretty tight, solid, and if it should need to be removed, just a small grind here and there. I also opened up one port just a tad. Touched up with some black paint and put thru 100 rds of .308 silver bear. Haven't shot since last fall, but hope to this spring. To cold and remote at the range. No Dunkin Donuts close by.
