jsniper 0
I own a Remington tactical 870 that has to use rifled slugs. I was told by the manufacturer that rifled slugs are the only type I can use. I just bought a Saiga 12 and was wondering what type of slugs I can use in this puppy? Do they have to be rifled or will rifled as well as any other type of slug work? What's the most poerful slug you recommend? Thanks
lipadj46 2
Your Saiga does not have a choked barrel so you don't have to shoot rifled slugs but they will probably perform the best in a smooth bore shotgun. My father bought a bunch of sabot slugs for his smooth bore because he did not know any better and they are just not as accurate through a smooth bore as they would be through a rifled barrel. lipadj46 2
Yes I know quite a few people who cast their own slugs just by boring a proper sized hole in wood and pouring lead into the hole.
brickfield mfg 86
for the best accuracy - rifled slugs through a smoothbore barrel with an improved cylinder choke, and sobot slugs through a rifled barrel or a smoothbore barrel with a rifled choke tube installed. This is assuming that you are shooting at something that is some distance away - if you a close enough it doesn't matter - either one will knock the crap out of anything it hits! Now if you decide to mix slugs, and buckshot - you would be better of with a smoothbore, as the rifleing will make a poor patern due to the centrifical force scattering the shot. My S12 shoots Estate Rifeled slugs accurate out to 200 yds.
