My s-12 is out being converted, so I didn't have anything to compare to. I was going to take the top off my ak rifle too see if it would fit then my brain fart kicked in. I also found an old maddi type ribbed cover with an out-of -spec rail weldded to it, dremmeled the ejection port to match the factory dimensions, trimmed a small amount on the front edge.....WALLA! now I can mount my night vision monocular on it to co-whitness with my EOTECH 552 works well-IMHO Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Cobra 76 two 2,677 Posted March 5, 2009 Report Share Posted March 5, 2009 I've got an old Blackthorn AK top cover with a rail on it and A-2 rear sight. Looks like this ... It took me awhile but I did manage to fit it to one of my S-12s. It's tight as hell and actually good enough to trust the sights....maybe even an optic. Aside from having to cut out for the ejection port and the left front part to match the S-12 "trunnion", and having to beat out the raised rib on the top front of most AK covers, then there's another part you don't really notice til you look close. The right side of the S-12 dust cover is wider to make room for the larger bolt carrier to come all the way back. It will bind there when the bolt carrier is all the way to the rear.
