Horton Saiga .223 with steel mags ??

Recommended Posts

I was at a new gun shop in town today and he had what looked like a stock .223 Saiga on the shelf but it had either a 5 or 10 round steel mag in it. The gun also came with a 20 round steel mag. The seller said it was a "Horton" Saiga that had been lightly worked. I took it apart and he's full of cr@p. No bullet guide, bone stock trigger, everything else looks stock with the exception of possibly filing down the mag latch to accept what looked like a 7.62 steel mag.

Has anyone heard of a Horton Saiga before?

Has anyone heard of using a steel mag in a .223? (I'm admitedly a Saiga 7.62 fan and have converted a few of them, but know very little about the .223 versions).

This steel mag didn't appear to have a lip on it like the factory mags do, and there's no bullet guide in the gun. I'm wondering how in the world it would feed and cycle properly?

Anyone? help !!

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, sounds like a duck . . . . well, you get the picture.

Lew Horton Distributing sells guns of all kinds and even has offered some limited edition models, but never a Saiga that I know of.

Sounds like someone is spreading the manure in hopes someone gullible with money drops by . . .

Chances are better than not, it won't. To be reliable it will need a bullet guide and some .223 mags such as Galil Orlites or Bulgarian Waffles with minor mods.
