nalioth 405
It did to Australian cops who found this steering wheel lock while searching 18-year-old Chad Hasting's car after they pulled him over. They called in backup and arrested him for possessing a gun. Two more cops arrived in an unmarked car, and moments later, Chad Hastings was freed. According to Hastings, the arresting officer muttered, "Get a new steering wheel lock, it looks like a bloody gun," and told him he was a "a lucky boy," since "any other cop would have had you at gunpoint." Davehal9000 0
A friend of mine just about got shot over a bottle of cologne in the console of his car. He had no idea why the guy was freaking the fuck out so the cop couldn't figure out why Paul wasn't being more apologetic, which got him more wound up.
Wheel 0
looks just like my Saiga, hells yeah!
Koliadko 207
Ah, come on. Don't all guns have red rubber hooks on the ends? I'd call that one an idiot alert!
waynebar 52
It proves to me what a few state troopers told me, that the human eye and brain can be easily tricked into seeing something that isn't really there.
Gaddis 1,689
Hmm, guess I gotta stop beating off the next time the blue & red light special pulls me over next time. And I could have sworn that very act has gotten me out of a ticket (or two?) in the past.

BronCobraJet 80
I used to lock up my steering wheel with a 'gun" almost just like that when I lived in the big city. I can see why the guy was "absolutely gobsmacked"!
superA 289
I love how after they realized it wasn't a firearm they told him he was a lucky guy, this is straight out of a SNL skit.

And I could have sworn that very act has gotten me out of a ticket (or two?) in the past. Thats funny...reminds me of Mad Sam DeStefano. When the law would visit him he would take his p**** out and play with it during the interview. He would not crack a smile or anything...acted like it was nothing at all. Can you imagine interviewing him. Good God! I stick up for LE when they make stupid mistakes because we all have from time to time but I don't think I'm going to defend this one. The LEO who misidentified this steering wheel lock as a firearm will never live this one down. Edited April 15, 2009 by t165
