I don't see why any one would do that unless they were giving us better shit for our money. I an't saying i won't donate but i would want something in return. maby offer us like more accessiries for our guns or something. Or maby they could upgrade the board and donaters could have like special privlages. something, I just think they should offer us somehitng in return for spending money. Just a thaught. Im not IT guy but Id imagine these sites cost money and time to keep up. From the post the smallest donation I see is $5. $5 seems to be minuscule to the ammount of info one can obtain here. Have you spent any time on some of the other boards where this is the norm? It's not a cool experience. There's a pecking order and those that can't donate as much don't have as much fun. Screw favoritism. If someone wants to donate they can and we're lucky we have that option. I for one appreciate it! And I will donate something because I was not told I had to. I've recieved a lot of OUTSTANDINGly great info from this site & others...& met a lot of Great fellow Gun Nutz....Before I bore everybody to death...I'll end this with..I might willingly participate in throw'n in a few USDs' ..before they start Forcibly BILLING us for the use of it..even so others may use it for free... I happen to be of the school of thought that a donation ( which is a VOLUNTARY THING) would be to help SUPPORT and OFFSET operating costs of a place that *I* for one, along with MANY OTHERS have come to enjoy coming to, to talk, joke around, have a few laughs, and most importantly LEARN... We have shared our experiences in a COMMON THREAD ( no pun intended), We have come together, in a place where the FREE EXPRESSION of INFORMATION about something we all enjoy is readily available to ANY ONE OF US... Where else are you going to be able to go, that will allow you to share your good and bad times, on topics that EVERYONE else here can relate to, and appreciate??? Where else are you going to be able to get the HUGE WEALTH of knowledge stored in THIS DATABASE on a topic that other than here is PRETTY DAMNED OBSCURE??? NO PLACE!!!! thats where... If there is a need for us to all help share the load... and donate a few bucks.. I am ALL FOR IT! I get enough from the PURE ENJOYMENT I have just coming here... seeing everyones pictures, hearing their stories, reading their questions, and offering my own insights, and thoughts, hopefully to improve the quality of their experience, and help others to become BETTER at something they already enjoy...and be able to APPRECIATE such things on a different FINER level.... And that alone is enough for me.... If you feel you *NEED* something for a donation... dont donate.... but dont be suprised when you ask a question... and no one bothers to answer it... sometimes there are things more important than trivial materialistic nonsense... knowledge is power... and when it comes to saiga's.... this is the place to empower yourself... and POWER THEM UP!!! The problem is that this forum is written in PHP which is just a bit different from HTML tags. Have you *actually* tried to start-up a forum? ...using free hosting? Not to bitch or anything, but it takes just a bit more than you would think... I definatelly would like to see a free hosting that will give me 110GB of CRN traffic (espesially my wife would love to find one after she paid a $550 bill of overusage in January!) Do you see any ads or pop-ups or banners here? I'm sure free hosting offers that too!!! This board is 10X better than any other gun board. Here's what makes this board great: 1) There is minimal (if any) moderator interference 2) The group is small enough so any financial dealings can be done with confidence 3) It is obvious that this board is being run based on a love for Saigas rather than for greedy profit (do the math on other boards based on member donations, banner ads, and vendor contributions) 4) Makc allows us to upload pictures. you WILL NOT find that on other boards. that's a bandwidth eater. Look at it this way. If you converted your own Saiga based on info learned from this board and saved $100+ from having a smith do it, consider donating. If you got a good deal on a gun, mags, or accesory, consider donating. If you sold stuff on this board, consider donating. If you were entertained by this board, consider donating. The site cost money to run, and HE owns it. This is his house. Here's an analogy. When you ask what more you will get with your donation, that would be like going to his house and drinking his beer every night, for free. With a bunch of other people that he may or may not know. Then after a while, he tells everyone drinking beer at his house that beer is expensive, and if anyone would like to donate it would be appreciated. Would you stand up and say, "Why should I donate for beer money? What else are you going to give me?" The beer is enough. Sounds very rude to me and you wouldn't be drinking beer in my house. Anyone should understand that one. Gives me an idea. I've got some of those kind of friends and my wife's tired of buying their's. Mine already costs a fortune. I have another anology which is why I can appreciate this whole argument. I built and operate a private disc golf course on my property. For those who don't know what that is, it is a fast growing sport just like regular golf but you throw frisbees (discs) at a target that looks like a basket with chains hanging in it. It's popular all over the world and there are many different tournament tours that go around to different courses. I have been operating the course here by myself for 10 years. That means making improvements, keeping up with all the grounds work and maintaining all the baskets and tee pads. There are a lot of people who enjoy coming here to play on there own time and I host tournaments on at least three different tours every year. All this work and gas money and maintenance on the tractor, mowers, and equipment, come out of my pocket. I keep a doation box at the first tee and let people donate what they can when they can in exchange for the priveledge of playing my course. It doesn't really bring in enough to make much difference because there are only a handful of people who can appreciate what I'm doing for them enough to actually give anything back. The same people are always donating so sometimes we have to remind the ones who aren't what it takes to run the place. I like to keep the donations annonomous and voluntary though so people don't feel uncomfortable if they don't have much to give. Some people have suggested that I charge a flat fee to play just like the real golf courses do. These are the same people who have enough money to donate already. If I started charging everybody to play, a lot of them would just go play on the public courses where it's free. One reason the sport is so popular is that it does not cost as much to play as ball golf. I don't want to drive away some of the cool people who come out, just because they don't have much extra cash. These are the folks that come out the week before a tournament and help me get the course ready for 50 - 75 others to enjoy. On here I guess the only thing besides money people have to contribute is their knoweledge, experience, and good vibes...or bad for some. Here I go again typing another long ass letter, oh well it takes me awhile to get my thoughts out, sorry. Anyway what I'm getting at is this past year the whole course donation thing came to a boil when one of the tour directors, who's yearly schedule includes many courses public and private all over the state, bitched when I asked him to shave a couple of bucks a head off the $8 entry fees to put towards upkeep for the private courses on his tour that he makes money on. (We have talked about this for the last few years and the best I've been able to get out of him is putting a donation basket on the table that usually ends up with less than $10 bucks in it after 50 - 75 people pay their entree fee.) Well he didn't like that idea at all. He said it was not his responsibility to pay for upkeep on a course he only plays once a year. The public courses don't charge anything. The people like him that don't think they should have to donate anything don't realize that the public courses are paid for by their tax dollars but the private ones cost the owners money and time and the only way they can recoup some of it is by raising it on tourneys and donations. Most people won't pay for anything they can do for free and get away with it. Then I told him he could just add a couple of bucks to each entry fee and give that money to the course. There are only about 15 private courses on the list of 75 or more he goes to each year. Well he didn't like that either. He said why should everyone have to pay extra just to play a private course? WHAT DO THEY GET OUT OF IT? What he does not understand is that it is a priviledge to be able to go on someone's private land and hold a tourney where people can drink out in the open and pretty much do what they want without being harassed by cops in a city park. I relate this to the Saiga forum because this forum is the sole property of Max and he is nice enough to maintain this place where we can all come and enjoy ourselves. I will be glad to donate a little money to help him out because I prefer to come here over the other sites and I spend more time here. Others do too. The more people you have the more upkeep there is. I will get my extra reward for my donation every time I learn something new or find a good deal on a gun part or maybe just when I crack up at some of Pistonring's, Wolverine's, or Bvamp's twisted humor!
