As per Fox News if you log into (sigh in) Cash for Clunkers government web sight your computer will belong to the hired politicians (Government).

Thats hard for me to believe that, but better read the fine print if you go over there.

Saw this on Glenn Beck too.

Between all the Czars that are very evil, communist, socialist people. I'm sad to say that this country is doomed. If the people don't stand up and vote these Congressmen and women out of office in the coming elections. Then we are fucked.

Agreed, let's vote these fuckers out. My blood is fucking boiling at all the fucking obamacare and the so called foreign policy.

The Friday Glenn Beck TV show had a segment where someone contacted them about this Govt car program website.

In the typical security agreement form that we so often just click ACCEPT without reading it stated something to the effect of:

Once you click on this Govt program site your computer and all files, etc contained within become the full legal property of the US Govt and can be disseminated to & used by any law enforcement agency, numerous govt dept's, etc AND even foreign entities!

IE., once you click through to that program "OUR" Govt now has their cookies, and who knows what kind of programs, reading everything you do, have done, will do!

Kinda scary huh?

Looks like we need to start reading the fine print on everything eh

I agree. Can you please go to that web sight sign up and tell us what the terms of the agreement say. (the almost hidden fine print)

Still hard for me to believe that. But if it is true vote them all out.

Interesting, but I know of no kind of cookie that can not be cleaned off your PC. I would like to see the EULA myslef and see what it says. I might just go over there later if I have time and see for myself.

Has anyone been yet?

A while back, I was on a car chat group that had an extended Race section or something. I just happened to read their agreement and it included the "right" to preview any website that you had viewed before and after watching/viewing their site. I assume they did it for advertising purposes, but it wasn't in any bold letters or anything and was hidden in their legal BS. I would almost think all websites are the same. Even if your employer has one. I need to find a website of chainsaw murdering/knife killers to log into before and after.

Don't forget their Islamic partners. The communists and other leftists have partners in the Islamofascists because they both want to subjugate us. I hope we can still vote them out.

After Dhimmy Carter visited Venezuela in April 2008 to see madman Hugo Chavez who owns the company which makes voting machines in the US I hope it's not too late and they have control over our voting system.

I would not put it past the DemonRATs to do that. THey stole elections in many places, Bob 'B1' Dornan in Orange County, Ca., they changed senate candidate Corzine for Frank Lousenberg (illegally) and the latest was the degenerate Al Franken stealing the senate seat in Minnesota to the supine Norm Coleman who gave in to the POS.

there are a number of methods being used (for quite some time now) that pull information off your machine. things like your sites visited history, what cookies you have set (as well as their contents), any saved form information, UNSAVED form information, where you just were, where you leave to, all kinds of crap like that.

This is not new at all, but I would be interested in seeing if it puts some sort of applet on your machine that sends tracking data out with it, when you are NOT logged into their site. I could have serious fun with their token rings with something like that :) BUT, I promised them I wouldnt do shit like that any more. No more friday night "OOOPS!!! hahah" for me.

The warning y'all are talking about a.) isn't on www.cars.gov, it's on www.esc.gov, b.) only applies to dealers already registered with the Feds as a vendor for this program and b.) only while logged in to the esc system - it's standard Federal boilerplate for connecting to and using Federal computer systems.

Ben,

I dont think its that people dont know about cookies, hopefully anyone with a computer learned about that a long time ago.

Its the legal aspect of a policy like this that goes beyond just marketing purposes. The legal eagles can (and will, I'm sure) debate the details but giving up your legal rights to any & all info ever accessed via your computer to, I presume, any goverment agency who wants it, as well as who knows what foreign organization?????

Sorry to maybe sound a little paranoid or tin foilish but you know how various searches and random trolling can result in gosh knows what links being displayed on your screen? Beyond the basic concerns of the govt watching and tracking all your financial activity, personal communications, etc., just think about how they could use "anything" that ever was accessed via your computer against you?

With this policy they now have legal possession of it all - no search warrant, etc even needed.

Security programs are available but do folks think the gov't doesnt have somewhat more advanced capabilities than commonly known?

Anyway, perhaps it will stir folks to become more aware and even involved?

Cheers

Harv

Oh noooooo cookies OMG this is like the end of the world!!! Being afraid of cookies is like being afraid that the gov'ment is watching you through the power grid by monitoring fluctuations in resistance in each room. If you're so afraid of them, turn them off, if you don't know how, ask Uncle Google, who is also tracking you. Even better set your browser to prompt you to all or deny cookies, see how many times the warning pops up.

Anyone ever heard of server logs? No? If you go to any government site they can track you by your IP address which can be linked directly back to you from your ISP. If you visit through a proxy it makes the tracking harder but still possible. In fact, almost every site you go to tracks your IP address in the server logs, sometimes along with your browser type, operating system, and other stuff.

For example, here are the last couple records on my server, from these logs, I can see that the user visiting my server was on Comcast's IP block, were viewing the Tapco recall thread which I started awhile back, they were using Internet Explorer and using Windows Vista... I can even tell the user was on Penn State's network, but I won't go into that. If I were the government, I could take the IP address and ask Comcast who was using it at the time listed and they could provide all of your information. Cookies or no, you are still tracked.

+1 I just started filling myself in on all that a couple of months back when CableOne started throttling my connection for downloading too many torrents. I had a small panic attack for about a day when I realized just how not anonymous I was on the net. At least we don't live in Korea...

May want to consider using the latest version of Firefox 3.5.1. This version has a "private browsing" mode for browsing the Internet that does not write any data of that session on your hard drive. More info:

http://www.ghacks.net/2008/11/05/first-loo...-browsing-mode/

Good luck,

Yakdung

That doesn't hurt, but the problem isn't our hard drives, it's the logs of the ISPs. They have unlimited insight into every web site you access, and can divulge the info to basically anyone who asks. RIAA, FBI, CIA, IRS, Supreme Court, local cops, whoever.

Go read it yourself - it doesn't actually say that. It's standard boilerplate concerning the use of Federal computer systems. This warning has been around for years, it's nothing new.
