My daughter and I stopped by the Chevy dealer last night to look at the new Camaros. After we looked at the Camaros, we walked next door and looked at the Dodge Challengers. Both are more money than I want to spend on her first car (and would be way too expensive to insure with a teenage driver), but I really like the new Camaro and I might want one. My first car was a 1974 Camaro, in aqua blue. Chevy has brought back the aqua blue color for the 2010 models. I like it. Now, I know that red, black and orange look great, but for a mid-life crisis, oh does that aqua blue bring back memories.

 

So, maybe in Feb. or March, I might trade my current ride in for an aqua blue Camaro. But, two questions or opinions. First, which do you like best, the Camaro, the Doge Challenger or the Mustang? Next, will I look like an old Fudd trying to live in the past driving around in a new Camaro, or do you think they transcend the age barrier?

 

Of course, it has to have the 426 hp engine and the six speed manual!

The Mopars look like crap from behind with stock tires. Way too tall. Mustang designers went home before finishing the ass end of their business, looks like it's from the 80's. Really, has any Mustang after 1971 look like anything but a turd? The Camaro looks like the only complete job to me. If you get some nice fatties on the back of that Mopar though... I'd say Camaro right off the lot and stock.

If you got the bucks, a Challenger SRT8. They really got the vibe when they styled this one. Number 2 would be the Mustang - but every body and his brother has a Mustang. I would only buy the camaro if it were a drop top. In my small hamlet, I experienced nirvana one day when I saw the new Challenger on the street next to me, followed by a new Mustang, and a couple of cars later the new Camaro. It's a small enough town I doubt I'll ever see that again. Challenger ROCKS and the resale will be higher because of the rarity.

I say the camaro I've been in the rest that one fits me best but that's just me and if you have to ask if you are to old you probly are but if you are like me I don't realy think to much about if people think I'm to old fat or what ever you only get one life right? Unless some one changed that standard

unfortunately Pontiac will be GONE very soon... I would say get the Challenger... especially the one JUGGS POINTED OUT!!!

 

Second choice, though... the Camaro in blue... :up:

 

 

I agree with other posters... The mustangs are ho-hum and "EVERYOBODY'S got one! "

Well, being a Ford guy, I would say go Mustang. But unless you are willing to shell out for the GT500, don't bother. They look like crap these days and most people are more concerned with looks than performance. That being said, I chose Challenger, because it actually has old school muscle car curves and doesn't look like most of the other turds on the market today. So if you got the cash go GT500, if you want a stock good looking quick car, go Challenger. And yes, you HAVE to get it with a Hemi. :wub:

Oh yeah, that is nice. Although I am not quite ready, I took the wife over to see both tonight after dinner. She likes the Challenger better. She also pointed out that the windows on the Challenger are bigger, thus giving much better visibility. When I looked at the Camaro again, she was right. The side door windows on the Camaro look like small turret slits - looking out of them would not provide much of a view. Also, the trunk on the Camaro is tiny with a capital "T." The Challenger's trunk is probably 40 to 50% bigger.

 

Lime green or plum purple would be awesome! I remember those colors from my junior high days. But, basic black with the black and red interior, off set by the large, red, Bembro brake calipers makes for a very nice look. I also noticed something on the Challenger that I have never seen before. The Aluminum wheels are deeply stamped/ingraved with the word "Alcoa." I have never seen their logo displayed on a production car's wheels before. It looked good, tasteful, not over-stated.

There are a lot more of them on the road though. I was checking out the new Camaro the other day and was impressed.

 

The Dodge is bad ass though! (especially the CUDA) If you want to really feel your neck snap back, get a Viper.

A Viper is way out of range for this lowly civil servant! But, a Challenger R/T Classic package is probably doable. And, I just checked the Dodge web sight - They offer aqua blue, too (they call it Pearl Blue). Yes!

 

The SRT8 is a bit less than the Mercedes, so I might be able to squeak up into that model, but due to the fact that I need to buy my 16 year old a car, too, I'd probably be better off with the R/T Classic rather than the SRT8.

GM is owned and operated by you-know-who.

Chrysler has been a basket case for years. Daimler dumped them because they sucked so hard, even before the economy tanked.

Mustang. The others only exist because of it in the first place, which is something I really dislike about the new Camaro and Challenger. Instead of trying to innovate, they see Ford totally reinvent the Mustang with killer retro styling (which completely revived the pony car market), so they just copy Ford...again.

 

The aftermarket for the Mustang is huge...completely blows the other 2 out of the water combined. So even if there are a lot more Mustangs on the road, that doesn't mean there has to be anything common about yours....half the fun of owning a car like that is in "personalizing" it.

 

For the price of a new Mustang GT, you can buy a used 05+ Mustang V6 and turn it into a low production Shelby. http://www.shelbyautos.com/images/TerlinguaFlyer.pdf

 

If you want to invest in something a lot rarer than the Camaro and Challenger (and for about the same price), you still win with the Mustang.

 

edit- oh and once guys reach the age of 12, they no longer grow up, they just grow older. Age barrier? No such thing :P

Good point. Many people nowadays will not buy a vehicle that is in effect an Obamamobile. Old skool Challengers or Ford are your only optition. I love Mopar, but would buy Ford now, in support of their defiance to the gov. The Challenger has a lot more rear seat lg room than the Mustang does. The Ford Bronco is perhaps the finest vehicle ever built, once it is set up right. lol.

I love the challenger, but ask a police mechanic how he feels about the dodge platform compared to ford (not nearly as dependable). The mustang however is not as fast, they never have been short of a specialty such as Saleen. My personal choice is the Camaro. The Camaro is on a dependable platform, fast as hell & it seems to be what YOU want. You only live once. As for the politics, the only reason ford isnt government owned is that they were bailed out with huge loans by bush, so they may still become government after all. Also you gotta show the government that COOL CARS SELL. Otherwise they will kill off the Camero. Also guys, if there are ANY companys that our country MUST bail out, it is the auto industry, THEY ARE A PART OF OUR NATIONAL DEFENSE WARTIME PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES!! Remember WWII? In an emergency the tooling can be converted to produce military vehicles. Also if the auto industry was let to fail, it would look pretty weird w/ nascar racing Hondas & Hyundais. I used to like European cars but in this economy I drive a Towncar because I want to have credibility when I say "buy American your country needs you now".

So instead of buying "Government Motors", you'd opt to buy the Hemi, made by... "Government Motors"? You may have missed it, but Chrysler went tits-up, too, and was bailed out by the gubmint.

 

So if you're a "real" American, you can only buy Ford. And make sure it's actually MADE IN THE USA. Most of 'em aren't. A great many F150s are made in Mexico, Canada, VENEZUELA, and Brazil.

 

Truth be told, most of what you think of as "American" cars aren't any more. They're built elsewhere, because the carmakers could get tax breaks, government handouts, and other "socialist" things like that to build them there.

I would go with the Camaro or the Challenger. I just sold my 1999 Pontiac Trans-Am and really regret it! : (

 

However, I think my next hotrod with be a turbo-something. Either that or a Triumph Rocket 3. : D

Actually it was Lee Iacocca who petitioned (screamed at) congress for a bailout in the 80's & used it to make the k-car platform which saved Chrysler, the mini-van was k-car based & boosted them. They almost went under again, but the Neon & 94 re-design of the ram saved them. Then they were about to go under yet again & Diamler bought them, made a bunch of BAD-ASS designs bringing the stock price up then Diamler jumped ship while the jumpin' was good & here we are.

Don't get me wrong I do love Mopar, But facts are facts.

I drive a BMW and have no qualms about it; it's a great car and I bought it used so it's not like my money went to Germany. My last car was a Buick; my last car was a piece of garbage. Maybe if GM hadn't spent so much time making gas guzzlers that rattled themselves apart at 150k miles they wouldn't have gone under.

The Lincolon Towncar, crown vic/ grand marquis (panther platform) is a 350,000 mile car. Mine is a 97 it is at 189,000 miles & runs like a top. I will drive it for a long, long, time to come. :up:

Look at that! those are the accual valve covers your looking at! thats a supercharger on top! You might have to learn a thing or 2 along the way(sound familiar?) but this is a engine that ford wasn't so ashamed of that they needed to hide it, and they left it out there in the open for you to be able to work on...

 

muscle cars are meant for blue collar guys to be able to wrench on. i wouldn't even know where to start on the first 2 with a tune up. the mustang however i would be comfortable changing out injectors, a intake, a underdrive/overdrive pulley, a exhaust, a new MAF... ect...

 

stock sucks... why let them tell you what to have?

 

Get the real pony car. Get the Mustang.
