Kriegerwithin 0
I have the factory handguard on my converted Saiga but it doesn't do much to withstand the heat from the barrel. After about 60 rounds it's too hot to hold. I'm aware that brackets have to be placed on to the gas tube for AK handguards to be installed. I was lookin around and found two gas tubes I'm interested in but have some questions about them. This gas tube from DPH Arms. It looks to have like a vent on it, but does it have the brackets needed for a lower handguard? I can't really tell, the pictue is too small and the more I increase the zoom, the more the picture becomes blurry. Then there's this gas tube from K-VAR. Would this fit a Saiga? *If link doesn't work, the gas tube is the only one that's not out of stock, besides the ones with the handguards on already.* My finally question is, which handguard is the best at temperature reduction? Thanks for your help. Edited August 22, 2009 by Kriegerwithin
Boba Debt 350
The lower hand guard retainer is a separate piece. I have a thread posted that explains how to modify an pressed on LHR to make it into a bolt on.

imarangemaster 315
+1 The K-Var handguards work very well. 200 rounds, and not to hot to hold. The factory will work better if you drill seven 3/8" holes along each side of the top, and line the bottom with some aluminum duct material to form a handguard. It is not as good as the K-Var, but way better than the stock factory one. This was mine in the early stages of conversion.
