fxhart 14
I went to install my brand new Hogue AK Pistol Grip on my S-12 and no matter how hard I tightened the screw it just would not quite snug up into the gun. It had a bit of play back and forth as well as side to side. To make a long story short, the Tapco pistol grip nut was making contact with the hard plastic of the inside of the grip causing it to fail. I dug out an actual mil spec AK PG nut and now the grip is rock solid! I just thought this was a bit strange and I just wanted to show everyone. Attached is a picture of the Tapco and Mil Spec PG Nut's.
zenmetsu 17
My AK is a TAPCO whore. I am leaving her that way. With my Saiga-12, I am adopting a firm "No TAPCO here, kthx" policy. Thanks for the heads-up though.
Death_Delirium 7
My AK is a TAPCO whore. I am leaving her that way. With my Saiga-12, I am adopting a firm "No TAPCO here, kthx" policy. Thanks for the heads-up though. I have the same situation with my AK and S12 (except for the FCG). I am trying to slowly convert my Tapco stuff on my AK over to better quality stuff but it will still probably be a while before it is Tapco free. I am trying to keep the Tapco stuff off of my Saiga, and just use higher quality parts.

I was just about to go to the shop and drill and cut the receiver for the nut and grip. Are you saying that the nut is defective, or that it won't work with the Hogue grip? Can the nut be made to work with the grip? Thanks.

It bugged the hell outta me because this is probably the best grip I've used on an AK type gun.

I imagine it's really smooth and comfortable. It's very comfortable and it has a pebble finish to it. It won't slip out of your hand. It fits my hand very nicely. lframke 1
Installed the nut and grip last night. If you had not mentioned the problem you had I MIGHT of thought mine was fine, a bit raised on the back of the grip, but except able. I now know better. I will grind some off the nut today. The grip nut is the only Tapco part I used in my conversion.
lvjeffro 30
does anyone other than tapco make a grip nut??? I don't want to convert mine with a DIY TG...
fxhart 14
K-Var has the proper pistol grip nut. Again this is only with the Hogue AK Pistol Grip. I've used the Tapco Saw and new style Ego Grip and it worked fine.

SamXBones 0
I just put a Hogue grip on my AR and I like it. I'd like to do the same with my Saiga, but if I understand correctly, it won't fit without some grinding. I have the Tapco T6 stock, like the one in this link: http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/saiga-t6-collapsible-intrafuse-stock-pistol-grip-tapco-p-339.html Will the grip just bolt right up to it, or will I need to do some modifications? If so, what are they? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The grips we all use are bolted onto our recievers, because we (well the vast majority of us) converted our guns, like this: I'm not aware if one can easily replace a slip on kit's PG like you have. If you're open to suggestion, just convert yours & you won't be ashamed any longer & you can easily put any grip you like on it. Also you can sell that one to the next guy who doesn't realize he needs to convert it, in our WTS section. Converting is very simple. We have 1 handed retarded monkeys here that have converted their guns & they work. Welcome to the forum.
raidersfan_5544 57
I also was looking at the hogue grip for my saiga. I have the ergo on my arsenal/saiga 7.62 and love the feel but as stated above it might have too much meat for the web of your hand. there are two type of hogue grips the one shown above and the one with the storage compartment. Has anyone tried this one?
Poniolo 1
Thanks for the post/info on the Tapco nut. Just finished a Romy G build and am having the problem with the loose grip; the Tapco nut is most likely the problem. I used the Tapco nut with the Hogue grip on my S-12 conversion and had no problem.
ktcm7271 999
I used the Hogue and Tapco nut on my S-12 as well and had the same problem. I left the nut alone and milled out the grip so it fit up tight. I also drilled, tapped, and installed a 1/4-20 heli-coil in the Hogue grip and used one of the holes in the receiver from the old trigger plate to give it 2 points of connection. That baby is rock solid! If you have average to large size hands, that Hogue is a dream.
