choobie 5
Has anyone gone through a whole conversion yet? You know, replacing the front sight block, gas block, flat trunnion bullet guide, etc? I saw that apex gun parts had ak74 gas blocks (hard to find a year ago) and thought of doing this myself, plus I noticed the existence of DIMPLES! How hard is it to press off/press on the front sight and gas blocks? Any videos of this?
SaigaNoobie 66
FSB / Gas blocks will not PRESS off. You have to cut them off. They are affixed via dimples.

What would be the best way to cut them off? If I were to use a cutting wheel on my rotary tool, what would be the best place to start? Bottom of block? Side? Thanks! Saiganoobie and I converted our rifles together. I believe the best (???, or at least it worked for us) way is to cut around the dimples. So he cut at the bottom of the barrel along the FSB, and then again above the dimples also along the FSB. It came off VERY easily, since the middle slice fell of. Now you'll need some high heat paint if you want it to look nice. The FSB on stock saiga is longer than the AK74 we have, so you'll have some metal exposed past it on the barrel. I picked up high heat spray paint at Home Depot. Sanded the barrel past the gas block and repainted. Now watching it dry... P.S. Cutting was done using the dremel tool and a black metal cutting disk attachment. Edited August 31, 2009 by armedpolak
