Anybody know anything about these rifles? or better yet, have any experience with one? It's probably the only bullpup rifle that has ever interested me. Just can't see spending that much money for something that I don't know anything about. All help is appreciated.

it's funny that you ask... i just got mine a couple hours ago.

first impressions:

this seems to be a very well built rifle. it seems quite sturdy, and i think it will last a very long time. the front sight is plastic(as i'm sure y'all know), but i'll get over it :P

i've heard people complain about the sights, but i like them. i'll just have to see how it performs at 50 yards with open sights before i can make a final judgment. i bout a bushnell scope so i'll probably be using that instead of the sights anyway.

y'all can expect a range report by the end of this week... maybe even by tommorow :t

now for the pictures :D oh, and just so y'all know, that bipod isn't mounted on the rifle... it's just resting on there. i'll be ordering a harris bipod, and a rail adapter for it very soon.

They make one in green too. Gilberts has one on the shelf, alot of people ask what it is and who makes it.

Glock is coming out with their own bullpup. I've heard its going to do pistol mags like the other companies, as well as model in 223!

How much did that run you? They list a silencer as an accessory on the web site? Can you fit your lunch inside the stock?

i paid $400 not including tax. there was one on gunbroker for $329, but after the shipping fee, transfer fee, and 3% credit card fee, it would've been almost $400, so i decided to just have my local shop order a new one direct from walther. then i bought a cheaper bushnell scope - another $80, and now i'm gunna pick up a harris bipod and a rail adapter for another $100... isn't it funny how a moderately priced rifle can suddenly get expensive :smoke:

the barrell on mine is not threaded. none of the ones sold in the U.S. will have the threaded barrell. but one of the guys from rimfirecentral.com had a silencer on his. you can just have a gunsmith thread the barrell for you, and then you can apply for a silencer. go to the walther section on rimfirecental, and go into the "G22 pictures thread". you will see it there.

edit - no, you can't fit anything inside the stock. the stock contains the action and magazines, so there's no extra room.

Cool, give us a report on how it shoots. I wish they would have kept the logo off the stock...makes it look like a lunchbox (why I made the lunch joke).

Do the mags slide in the butt stock when loading? How'bout for storage? I see 2 "thingys" at the bottom of it.

yeah, both mags it came with go in the buttstock. the one in front is the one that feeds when firing, and the one in the back is just extra. the one in the back is held in by friction(no lever or button is used to release it), so hopefully it will stay in there and not get worn out after a few years...

The one thing that struck me whan I picked one up was it was heavy for its size.

I put one of those bullpup stocks on a Marlin I got for nothing as a basket case, The G22 has a way better trigger, but the Bullpup urge is quenched for about 100 bucks instead of 300. :)

About the Magazines:

I did get to hold one and play around with it for a bit at one of my local gun shops. The guy who was working there at the time knew nothing about it, so I took it upon myself to figure it out. What I found was that the magazine release button (can't remember where it is now) will release both magazines, depending on the position of the charging handle. By this, I mean that only one of the magazines would be released while the handle was back, and the other while the magazine was forward. I don't remember which was which. It struck me as very stupid. Of course, I also didn't try just pulling on either of the magazines... well, not very hard anyway.

It's nice to know that the rear magazine will just "pull-free". That makes a lot more sense.

mag release is on the back of the thumbhole.

i'll probably take it out and break it in this afternoon, so i'll mess with the mag release and see what happens. :smoke:

cool buy Chips,

:) I would like one, but when you are running up into the $400+ range for a .22 I dunno. Even with cool ness factor.

heck I had a hard enough time to justify a pretty decent bolt action .22 in wall mart. Looked like a pretty sold gun, (dont remember what brand, had to see what it is when its in those huge display cases) Plus its crazy I was walking by by the rifle section in wall mart and there was an older gentlemen (like 60+) with his wife buying a rifle and the store guy was giving him a lecture. "Well now, I know you were in the Army and all, BUT we were gonna have to escort you to your car and give you the gun there". That wasn't the first time I've seen that either. One reason I havent gotten any gun off them.

Well congrats Chips! hope you have many hrs of cool and cheap plinking!!!! :super:

BTW- does the front sight get in the way of the scope? I notice its pretty high up in the vision.

BTW-  does the front sight get in the way of the scope?  I notice its pretty high up in the vision.

nope, you can't even tell that it's there when you're looking through the scope.

i took it out to the range today, so here is the copy and paste of what i had to say about it on another site...

i just put 300 rounds through mine earlier today. it's fun to shoot, but it is very picky about what kind of ammo goes through it accurately. it ate everything i fed it just fine - eley club extra, stingers, minimags, remington subsonics, and federal champions. it fired them all just fine, but there was a good 6 inches between the point of impact on all these rounds. you'll just have to pick one kind of ammo and stick with it if you get the G22.

the trigger isn't too bad. it has a long pull, but it's not very heavy.

and my front sight canted off to the left while shooting today, but that doesn't matter since i'm using a scope

i wasn't too concerned with accuracy at first, so i just fired off most of my ammo just to break in the barrell, but at the end i decided to sight it in with federal champions. once i actually started trying, i was able to fit most of my shots into a 3 inch circle at 50 yards.

it was pretty windy, and i was really shakey today, so i'll give it a try next week and hopefully i'll get better results. if not, i'll try switching ammo.

concerns:

the biggest problem with this gun is probably the front site. if you want to use open sites, the i would not reccomend the gun. the front site is held in place by a single screw, so it has a habit of veering off to the left. if you plan on using a red dot or scope, then it will be just fine.

the next problem is that the first round in the mag will pop out if you use too much force when sliding the mag into the gun. if this happens, you will have to remove the mag and clear the round. it's not a big deal - i just learned to ease the mag in and it was fine.

the last problem i noticed was that i couldn't remove the bolt. the manual doesn't tell you how to do it, but i'll figure it out soon enough(i hope). i know it can come out, i just don't know how to get it out of there :cryss:

other then those three problems, this seems to be a great gun.
