Not here. Bad feet, bad eyesight, and can make more money / stay at home elsewhere. They've got my draft card if they need me.

Plus, I am not subordinate to anyone, and, from what I see of law enforcement / military from the outside, they promote a LOT of

people, shall we say, way beyond their ability. I'd have no problem buying the farm for my country, but I wouldn't want to buy it because

I was under a dumbass.

It's interesting working with some former military, most are great people, but you get the occasional guy that thinks he's still a sergeant

and you're his bitch.

Dad served US Navy 1965-1988 PO1 Ret.

I signed up for Air Force 1983 but got medically disqualified because of recurring intestinal problems. Civilian contractor with General Dynamics Electric Boat Division 1988-1995 Electronics Mechanic working on mainly Los Angeles SSN, Trident SSBN, and Seawolf SSN class submarines working on sonar and missle control systems. Tried to join the service again in 1991 but this time was turned down by the Navy for the same 1983 issue. In 2007 I looked into joining the Army as a specialist but was told that my 1983 disqualification has no expiration date even if the medical issue hasn't occurred in 20 years.

In 2007, I watched my only child sign up to the Navy after spending 4 years in the Air Force JROTC during high school. She rose to the rank of Captain and served with the drill and rifle drill teams. She completed her four years of service in the Navy with VRC-40 as an AE but decided she had enough politics of the job. I told her that it would be the same out in the civilian world but she opted out on July 1, 2011 anyway. I hope she does all she wants to do but she knows what's best for her life, I can't live it for her. She tells me that it's not the same Navy that her grandpa served in. She seemed to have lost interest after being deployed in Bahrain last year. But she won't tell me about it.

I just regret not being able to serve but then I wouldn't be where I am today. I do enjoy being an IBEW Local 3 Electrical Foreman in NYC and I have a great life with four grandsons from my wife's two older kids.

This is my story and I'm sticking to it...

I didn't join any mostly because I couldn't stand authority when I was younger. I'm still not incredibly fond of the idea. Money was also a big factor...by the time I was 19 I was already making more than I could have in the armed forces as an enlistee. Having grown up a bit I think it would be a good experience and I can see why so many awnser the call. Like others have said I fill out my draft card, if need I'll come. But I've found other ways to see the world so I guess things sort themselves out in the end if you push hard enough.

Just one? I was Army Military Police. When I got out I was a volunteer Sheriff's Deputy for several years, did SAR, tracking for the the Prisons, and escort/protection for locals having domestic issues/death threat type stuff.

Now my daughter just got hired onto a local Security outfit. What have I started? :lolol:

i never did sign up , to much resentment from the military treatment i got at home from my step dad ," USMC" major retired with 26 or 27 years, " make youre bed this way" , "heres how you put on youre socks" "get youre elbows off the table " me , hey man chill out i,m six ! ive since grown up and looking back understand what he was doing and why , and have nothing but the utmost respect for our service men and women ! ive often wondered how my life may been different had i joined . instead i went to work 50 hours a week working night shift for iron workers shop local 520 while still attending high school via a vo tech program. transferd into iron workers local 10 after school finished and have been both happy and successful in my trade ever since . the qualitys of unity , dedication , determination , integrity and honor are not only aquired though military service .

Most of my family has been in the Military (all branches, never seemed to have a family branch) I just simply didn't join up. I think about it from time to time, but just never have....

I DO like to spend time helping the VFW and American legion when I can, as I have since I was very young and still do today with my Family.

I plan on becoming a police officer sometime next year (still getting in shape and I'm not 21 until October). I give great respect to all that serve in the military but I think my calling is law enforcement. There is too many people getting taken advantage of and being preyed upon by those piece of shit people who think they can do what the want. At least I can make my dent in keeping people safe and keeping order. IMHO

If I may,

Something I learned as a Heathen, many years ago, and have occasionally chastised some of my more "Warrior Centric" kinsfolk about. Not that I'm chastising anyone here, just reminding myself and anyone that needs it.

"A Tribe is not made up of Warriors alone, for the Warrior must depend on the Smith that crafts his weapons and armor, on the Farmer that raises his food, on the Weaver/Tanner that makes his clothes, the Healer that treats his wounds, the Builder that houses him and the family the raises up his eventual replacement. A Warrior without a Tribe behind him is typically a bandit, for he has no other means to gain what he needs to be a Warrior. Nor no other reason than himself to continue the fight."

In this vain, I salute those who didn't respond to the call of service, yet served as productive members of our Society.

HAILSEN!!!

Navy, YN2(SS), 2000-2006. Took a bad fall down a ladder when I was responding to a fire drill and ended up with a compression fracture of L1 (possibly the worst place to break your back, considering what nerves go through that spot). It never healed right, so I ended up on a medical discharge. USS Georgia (SSBN-729)(GOLD), USS Kentucky (SSBN-737)(GOLD), and finally COMSUBRON 19.

Currently beating my head against the wall, trying to learn Japanese, Supply Chain Management, and Finance. I'm an International Business major.

I served as a Marine Corps wife... Does that count?

Anyone that says it doesn't needs to meet Gunny Ermy in a dark alley!

Did not enlist. 9/11 happened when I was in high school, but still didn't even think about joining the military. College degree and all the opportunities that could provide were engrained in me and my brothers heads a long long long time ago. I am very thankful for all the men and women who have volunteered so the American public can choose whether they want to serve or not. I highly doubt this county can handle another draft, although a draft would clean up 99% of the message boards on the internet.

Juvinile record prevented me from joining :(

Sadly I am only a wannabe. I envy those in the service. Why not join now that im older?, too out of shape, have too many bills/responsibilities, too much invested in my current life to turn back now.

I served 4 years in U.S. Army as a 19K10, M1A2 Tanker, 1-8th Cav, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood. I was a driver, loader, and gunner before ETS'ing. I then became a police officer, but also served another 4 years in the TX Army National Guard, 1-124th Cavalry, 49th Armor Division, again as a 19K. I did a deployment in Bosnia during active duty, then a deployment in Iraq while in the National Guard. Both deployments, rode on up-armored HUMVEES as a .50cal gunner.

While in Bosnia, I attended one of the first un-official Sharpshooter courses where we got to train with the M24 sniping rifles. In Irag, we guarded the Iranian Peoples Mujahadeen of Iran, and I was on the PSD for our battalion commander.

I always dreamt of military service ever since I was a young lad playing with my G.I. Joes, and had a love for weapons all of my life. Did my 8 years and now out. Momma/Household6 did not want me to deploy again.

I always wanted to be a marine but went right from HS to college and goofed off too much in college (which is why it took me 6.5 years to finish). Finally got the piece of paper. Now after spending so much $$$ and time on my education I was happy to get a good engineering job offer and took it. I guess there's always some excuse for why people don't do it.. I probably wouldn't be as financially stable as I am now if I joined, but that's not all that factors into happiness in life. I wish instead of goofing off in college I went to the marines right after high school and then finished my degree when I got out.

army, military police. 10 dec. 1980 to 27 june 1987 . the first three years were alright. the last three and a half were horrific. only got out of the country once, Honduras. i joined while still in high school. i was very idealistic and patriotic. i thought that my company would be like a large tight knit family. they were systematic in destroying all of these things. it was just an adult version of all the petty clicks that exist in a public school. i am thankful for the things that i learned . many of the experiences that i had made me a better person.

I wanted to serve for all the great reasons listed above but did not. Father is a vet as well as many family members. In a broad stroke to summarize why, I did not want to be put in a situation to enforce a law or fight a war that I did not believe in. Don't jump to conclusions on this one, I bleed red, white and blue. Besides the ROE's are really fucked up right now and court martials are a real consequense for doing your job.

U.S.NAVY

F-14 Tomcat Mechanic, Troubleshooter/ Final Checker

Fighter Squadron 31, USS Abraham Lincoln, USS John C. Stennis 2001-2008

Loved launching war machines off the flight deck, hated being at sea for months on end.

I don't regret anything.

I don't regret getting out.

No matter what branch you served with, when you did, and what you did, thanks to all of you guys (and gals) who have served. To all of you who have those "blank checks" written out for Uncle Sam and currently in the fight, keep your head on a fucking swivel and check your six. Come home safe!
