I've got the SAW grip from Blackjack. I like it alot. Some other guys have the Galil grip, while others have the standard AK grip. Personally, I think the AK grip is a bit thin for a shotgun (S-12), but for rifle, it'd be fine.

I use the saw pistol grip on one of the saigas that I sold, I liked it, I have a regular

ak grip on this one that I have, but thinking on a fall grip by ACE or galil

grip, any way the AK grip is small and comfortable to my hand and wife hand

she is small and well fall and saw grips are big for small woman hand.

any way looks at url. few grips by ACE.

hoop762,

I have installed one of these on my WASR-10 and have another one on the way for converting my Saiga .223.

The grip looks like a classic AK grip but is a little longer and wider.......more of a medium size grip than the tiny thing Century Arms puts on the WASR and sells on some retail sites for $6.

http://www.dpharms.com/modules/shop/produc...&products_id=42

$12 ain't a bad price and it clearly reads made in the USA unlike the Century grip.

PS....Steer clear of the Yugo grip ACE offers. Ace buys these from a vendor and they are junk. I actually returned one it was so poorly formed at the point of the trigger guard and screws insertion. It smelled of industrial solvert suggesting an attempt to clean up the poorly formed crappy compound. ACE officials told me they were having nough problems where they were contemplating getting out of the grip business altogether.

The first pic is the Tapco grip that Wolverine sold me. It looks and feels a little flimsy until you mount it on the rifle. Once mounted, it is nice and sturdy. The grip feels wide and at a perfect angle. The mounting set up around the PG nut and trigger guard is perfect. There is a trap door in the bottom and the grip is mostly hollow. I am very pleased with it.

The other one I bought for my AMD. It is more "ergonomic" than a standard grip. It looks cool, is almost solid plastic with about a 1" square hole through the center and damn near indestructable. There are notches in the bottom for a trap door but it did not come with one.

Both grips are US made. Both require a pistol grip nut but dont come with one. The Tapco grip came with the correct screw and a small spacer for inside the PG.

I'm gonna hurt some feelings here, but it's just my opine...

While I think the non-traditional grips are O.K, I think they look a little on the cheesey side -they sort of pretend to be something they are not (like -they seem to be on the wrong weapon).

I personally like the traditional AK grips in wood, rust-brown bakelite, and, black -as factory designed.

I understand that the Saiga forearm, if retained, pretty well is design compatable with a non-traditional PG.

That's just me.

lollygagger-

i totally agree with you. i love the look of the traditional ak pistol grip, but i have held one and it just doesnt fit my hand very well. They are just a bit too small for my liking and just arent comfortable to hold....thats just MHO

Function over form for me, the regular AK grip is OK, but I like the feel of the FAL/SAW grips much better. I am not a purist on any military style weapon, and what the heck neither are soldiers, they will modify their weapons as much as they need or can get away with. ;)

Thats true. I like a comfortable and "mean" looking grip. But alot of guys are pureists when it comes to the AK. They like to see wood all the way around or a plastic grip with the casting line down the middle and the checker traction. I guess the AK looks and functions fine either way.

If you are a military / war buff, then you would most likely want the traditional style. If you are into tactical / swat or c.e.r.t. stuff, then the more modern grips are for you. There is an AK grip on the market that looks like an original but is wider and slightly tapered to fit your hand.

Either way is fine for shooting. But when a grip is designed to look cool but not hold up worth a shit, then it is a bad idea to follow form over function.

I prefer the ergo style. Or a more modern, wide grip. To me the traditionals look like they were made by Ethiopian children weilding stone tools. But then again, they may have.

I have the AK grip on my 7.62X39 and I am going to put the saw grip on my S-12 the AK grip is a little small for my hand but I want to make the rifle compact with a folding stock. I like the feel of the saw grip on the shotgun because it is weighs more than the rifle and its easyer to "swing it around" with the saw grip.

I like the larger feel of the SAW grip, the angle I'm not sure about yet. I do like the way it "beavertails" along the bottom of the receiver. However, I was very disappointed with the construction of the trapdoor and latch. It is so cheesy I almost yanked it off before I installed the grip. The trapdoor itself is nothing more than a flap of plastic with a pin for a hinge and a flimsy bent-wire clip to latch it. I think I'll try the ACE Galil grip on my next one. The ergo grip just looks too...AR-ish. Before you know it you'll be adding telescoping stocks and handguards with rails. What really scares me is that doesn't sound like an all bad idea. What would Mikhail think!

I personally like the way the traditional AK grips look on the Saiga because they are AKs. They are not FALs. I don't really care for the plastic ones though. They are too small and kind of cheesy looking. I like for the PG to match the forearm or handguards though so if you have a synthetic forend then a matching synthetic or plastic PG is best. I would like to see a black plastic AK grip with a little more meat on it. That seems to be the main reason people don't like them. I picked up a wooden grip at a gunshow that does have a lot more meat on it. If you don't like the typical small AK grip you might like this one better. It was a little too wide in fact so I took the dremmel to it and made some finger grooves. Anyone know what nationality this PG is? I would like to find another on for my saiga.

Seriously, it looks home made, or maybe one from Ironwood? I have not seen any standard shaped grip, wood or otherwise, that are that wide and come on a rifle. Unless the picture is making it look wider than it is.

Err..intelligent enough now? ;)

No sweat man. There's been so much sarcasm on the forums lately I guess my trigger finger's just a little itchy. Sorry. No it really is that wide. That's why I thought it would fit into this thread being that the US made AK grips are too small for most people. I got it from Scott at DPH Arms out of a box of misc. foreign AK parts. I asked about it on another popular AK forum a while back and was told it might be Polish or something. No polock jokes please :lolol: . It's definately not a US garage job and mine isn't the first rifle it's been on. I was just hoping someone who has seen a lot of AKs might be able to shed some light on the subject.

ACE sources and sells a "Yugo" grip that is checkered and wider than the average. I'm not sure what your grip looked like before you modified it but I wouldn;t be surprised to find the synthetic is modeled after an actual wood Yugo grip much like the one you have.

Just a wild ass guess though. See what you think.

Thanks for your input guys. I edited my above post to include another pic from a different angle. I did a search for Yugo AK pics and found this cool site with lots of good pics of different variants and their accessories. http://www.aa-ok.com/Gun%20Gallery.htm

Also found my grip! It's an early Chinese Type 56 from a milled reciever. That's pretty wierd that the widest AK grip ever made was by the chinese with their tiny little hands lol. Now I know what to look for but sounds like it will be hard to find.

Like Grandpa used to say...Learn something every day.
