Flat Dark Earth Paint ??? What type/brand?

Recommended Posts

I have ordered up some FDE parts and wanted to know if you fellow forum members have come up with some Krylon, Rustoleum, or other (store) brand spray paints that would match/close-match FDE parts from Tapco??

I heard Rustoleum has a Dark Taupe color that may match.??

Anyone here done actual MATCHING for there FDE component??

Just trying to do my incoming dustcover and safety lever when I get in my new components this week..

Has anyone here done Dark Earth accessories on there rifles??? unsure.gif

I know OD is prevalent, but DE is also woodsy'.

May also look into economical baking of the METAL parts if anyone can suggest DE colors and sources.

Duracoat, Alumahide, etc... Trying to keep it under $20-25.

If you're going to order some type of refinish, whether it be plain spray paint or Duracoat or Alumi-Hyde..................why not just refinish the Tapco parts too? That way, there's no worries of "will it match?". Everything will be exactly the same.

Also, for what it's worth.......neither Duracoat or Alumi-Hyde II require baking. You can use either refinish on metals and polymers/plastics.

I realize this is an old post, but if anyone is looking for an awesome FDE paint (a 3-stage process) there is a company on ebay called FDExpert (just search FDExpert on ebay), I have used the stuff and man is it excellent, paint and bonds to the surface very well.

Matches Magpul's FDE to a "T", and is recommended for airbrush application, but I hand painted my AR-15 and it looks awesome!!!

Highly recommended. I will try to get some photos posted soon.
