Saiga versus Chinese MAK-90

Recommended Posts

Both are sportarized versions of the AK, of course. My new MAK-90 in 7.62 by 39 has the Dragunov stock by Choate, which is in effect a legalized pistol grip on an imported rifle. I fired it today for the first time. The range was too crowded for real accuracy work, but I fired 65 rounds without a hitch. The trigger is MUCH better than that of my Saiga. The receiver is milled and the aesthetics are very good. The rifle was new or like new, can't tell. I bought mags at the gun show yesterday--30 round Norinco mags for $15; 20 round Hungarian for $12. They all worked fine. Should I sell the Saiga, the numerous 10 round mags, and the two 30 round mags, and keep the MAK-90 to fire my short Russian ammo? I think I could make a profit all around because my prices for the rifle and the 10 round mags were very good.

I omitted the fact that I also have a Saiga 308 and that it has a much better trigger than the 7.62 by 39. I also should say that I do not have any strong urge to remodel the Saigas as so many here have done. I might consider putting on a Choate Dragunov style stock, if such is available for Saigas. Installing the Dragunov or thumbhole stock apparently doesn't require the wholesale parts replacement the law demands for using a true pistol grip.

Keep 'em both.

The MAK's make nice shooters. The Sagia/Roms/Maadi euro style AK's are nice to play around with in different configurations.

You'll regret it if you sell. money is nice, but you can'rt shoot it (other than a a target).
