Double hook is smoother than Single Hook. Confirmed.

Recommended Posts

So I have two conversions. On the first conversion I did a double hook trigger and cut out the extra slot on the bottom of the receiver to make it fit. I was very happy with the G2 double hook.

On the second conversion, I first went with a K-var FCG which is noticeably grittier, mushier, longer than the G2.

I changed it to a G2 single hook. I decided that I didn't want to cut the slot on this one.

Well I can tell you that the double hook does feel slightly better than the single hook. Both beat the K-var easily.

The reason why the double feels better is because there is play on the trigger axle pin. (There should be otherwise it would be hard to pull the trigger) But since the double hook has two points of contact to the hammer, when you pull it you feel less deflection around the play on the axle versus the single hook.

I still don't think I'd do the double again because I'm not very good at making that second slot look like it was "factory" (read as in I make it look like a Century monkey was grinding it).

But I just thought I'd give another anecdotal data point to everyone.

Well, I tried to say this last week that many people had this opinion. I was then educated by a forum member that this isn't possible and doesn't exist because it wasn't designed for that purpose. So it just cannot be.

Sounds like you knew better. Per things not being designed for other things, take a look at Tony's Tromix anniversary thread; then tell the "educator" to stuff it. :)

there does feel like a slight difference with the double hook not realy enough to call it better. its seems there is a slight variations with most of the g2 i have used some are smooth as silk and others are a lil rougher but for the price they are the best thing going.

I converted two x-39s a while back, and did the single hook Tapco on one, and a double hook on the other, and played with both of them the same time, and wondered which one had a smoother pull. There was a slight noticeable difference between the two. The one that had the double-hook did seem slightly crisper than the single hook. They both have the same Dinzag muzzle brake on both rifles. I repeatly fired one after another to make sure it wasn't a mind-fuck, and the double hook did seem a c**t hair smoother in trigger pull.

I am on the verge of buying my first AK, and am in the process of learning everything I can about them. That is why I an here. I am amazed how you can read time after time what this OP and many like him say, but a blowhard who knows everything about nothing tries to lower the boom so he feels better about his insecurities.

+1 Thanks for the write-up of how the 3 different triggergroups compare, into_the_knight.

Imo, cutting the extra slot into the receiver for a tiny bit smoother trigger pull is not worth it. Then again, I own a couple rifles with the Arsenal triggergroup and I don't really mind it; it works better if it's been installed by Arsenal in one of their rifles, (there's an extra part involved that prevents overtravel). *shrug* Ymmv.

As I said, thanks for the info.

Guy's I've gotta ask a rudimentary question concerning the replacement of the Saiga FCG. So please bare with me. I'm still new to the AK platform, but love it so far! I want to replace my stock trigger, but I do not want to do a full conversion. (It's a CA thing.....) Can I replace the stock FCG, with the single hook TAPCO G2, without a problem? By this I mean making major modifications, and forcing me into the world of a "full conversion" of the receiver. A couple of searches in the forum haven't revealed an answer, and I don't wanna guess. Thanks for any help offered!
