sidewinderl 43
A GPS unit in the car is really nice for those times when there's unexpected construction on the road ahead or something and you have to take a detour.
diamondback 56
Had one lead me, for shortest route from Twin Falls to Golden Spike NHS (so I'm a railroad nut, indict me) down unimproved roads when we shoulda taken the Interstate. On the upside, we saw something that very few folks ever do, the north-shore of Great Salt Lake, but... First thing I do after picking up the latest edition of Street Atlas USA every year is make sure my routing preferences say "Unimproved Roads: AVOID AT ALL COST". Forest Service roads I usually mark "prefer to avoid", but may remove that if I'm roadtripping in summer (outside of a desert or heatwave) and traffic is a total Charlie-Fox on the Interstates.
