You probably need to talk with Robert directly. He is concerned with the safetys being properly installed. Give him a call and he can make the decision. Contact number is 503-551-7283. He may be a little busy today, I had to leave the Shot Show yesterday(only could take a couple of sick days without an investigation) so he is short handed.

anybody got some internal pics of how it fits and works

All the guns are at Shot Show right now, but it looks to me like the same setup as an AR.(I've only looked at it a little so I'm not an expert) The shaft that goes across the receiver is pivoted by the lever and prevents the trigger from moving. When Robert gets back from the Shot Show we will get some pictures.

$75 installation?

From your site: "Saiga/AR Style Safety- $89.00"

The site implies a DIY installation.

If it is compatible with other Saiga calibers, a demand should be there. If it is compatible with other AK's, much demand should result.

OT - a Weaver classic 1x3 throw lever would be a good addition.

Robert hasn't had the AR Style Safety in production for very long. I think that he initially planed to have it available for DIY installation but we were discussing it at the Shot Show and he may require gunsmith installation due to the safety aspect. There was a very positive reaction from the people at the show, many of whom own Saigas or AKs. He said it should fit any AK with a Tapco trigger and he is going to start working on an AK that he has in stock to see how things fit up after he gets home from Vegas next week.

Looks pretty cool Doug.

Does the $164 installation cover refinishing too? Also, just to verify.... by ambidextrous, that doesn't mean you just use your left index finger to activate the right handed safety, right? I assume not, but just wanted to verify.

Thanks. This will definitely be on my list of things to have done to my Saiga 12.

The $164 would cover parts and installation. Any refinishing would be extra. The safety works just the same as an AR ambi safety, there is a lever on either side of the frame. Normally, as with an AR, you would flip off the safety with your thumb. Because there is a safety lever on both sides, south paws can also release the safety with their thumbs.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is patentable about a design that was copied from the rifle that more americans are familiar with than other, put on a saiga, which, im pretty sure more than one other smith has done, more than once?

Ah, the devil is in the details and that is what the patent process is about. If the USPTO agrees that is is not patentable, no patent will be issued. While in Patent Pending status, it establishes R&R's place in line, in case someone else wants to try an get a similar patent. Understand that this is searched and reviewed by a knowlegable Patent Attorney (with firearms experience) before filing the paperwork with the USPTO. Alot of money is involved in getting a patent, so it pays to do some investigation before jumping off the deep end.

Doug,

Just for clarification... The Parts & Installation would be the safety hardware, and un-refinished installation. The installation would require the new hole(s) for the safety, and the original safety hole gets welded up?

Thats correct. If you want to have the gun refinished it would be extra.

Thanks Doug!

Looks like I'll save up a little more and have the charging handle moved to the left side as well. Might as well save on the hassle of shipping it to/from twice.

Good idea! I really like the left side charging handle. I've been practicing cycling the bolt with the shotgun still against my shoulder and on target. Much faster than rolling the gun over and pulling the bolt with the left hand or taking your hand off the pistol grip and using the right hand.

Would this interfere with the existing BHO devices?

We don't use a BHO on our guns, but I don't think there would be any interference. If you want you can give Robert a call and have him explain the installation to you. You can get him at 503-551-7283.
