Dust 0
Been looking for a carbine, and the 5.45 as always been interesting to me. Does anyone use their 5.45 for hunting. IF so, what ammo, and how does it work for you? Edited February 16, 2010 by Dust

Some will say that it is inhumane to hunt with such a round, but I'm not sure. There's a guy at another forum who has documented his hunts using his AK 74. The results were more than acceptable. I'll try to dig up the info again and post here.
mav 459
What are you wanting to hunt? For varmints it would be great, but most states will have a 22 cal. centerfire minimum for big game (whitetail and up). And I don't know if the 5.45 is considered 22 cal. or not. Here's the only one I could find in a hurry: http://www.theakforum.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=112495 In most of his hunts, he uses 7N6, but in that thread, he used Wolf HP. I'll look for some of the other threads when I get a bit of time, but they're all on that forum, if someone is interested in looking.
Dust 0
Gonna be on mostly non-game animals, which in Texas have no limits, or if I use it on game animals, I think any powder burner is allowed. The difference is one character. I've changed the link references so that they should work. Some of the threads' pictures are now defunct. 7N6 ammo. No Autopsy. Everything but rimfire is legal on florida deer. There is a tutorial about how to cut down steel mags here: http://www.theakforum.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=44056 That forum seems to be having technical issues today, but try it later. Also, some of the pictures in that thread are dead now, but last time I looked, there appeared to be enough info there to make it work.
Dust 0
Good read on the akforum, but seems most of the pics are not there anymore. Been looking at the Saiga/Ak and an AR platform.
Mullet Man 2,114
You dont need to cut the mag down, you could just block it. Remove the floor plate and install something to keep the follower from allowing anymore then your desired amount of cartridges.
