RobRez 1,896
So I got bored this weekend and decided to paint my Saiga 7.62x39 ! You can be honest if you think it is a crappy job, I'm not too sure about it yet. I was missing parts to my airbrush so I just used the krylon and homemade stencils. I think it will work well in the dry grasses of Montana.
Klassy Kalashnikov 1,393
Looks really nice, I like it. Is the Krylon stuff chemical/solvent resistant?
RobRez 1,896
It has worked for me in the past. I try to use solvents carefully and just wipe down the outside of the weapon with a rag and citrus based cleaners.
volkov 318
Like it a lot! as long as it holds up, it looks great
Moe Zambeak 53
I think the paint job looks good! It's the Tapco folder that I'm not fond of.

I may as well have a wet noodle attached to it!!! I'm saving up for an Ace folder.

Have you thought about an EG folder? Or are you not digging the wire folders?
RobRez 1,896
Actually I will check em out. I love the Romanian folder on my Saiga .308!
Klassy Kalashnikov 1,393
There is also a bar that mounts onto the East German/Romanian wire folding stocks to make them have a nice, solid body and much better cheek weld, especially after a paracord wrap. One Source Tactical makes it I believe.
TR Young 175
Not overly fond of camo paint jobs, but that looks really, really good!

22_Shooter 1,560
I must say, that looks damn good for a rattle-can job! Shit, I was patting myself on the back when I rattle-canned a .22 stock....................and I only did it in solid black.

RobRez 1,896
Thanks, fellas! I wasn't too sure about it, but I'm used to doing super detailed artwork so I felt over critical of my loose random camo design. I just did what I thought would blend in with the local flora. TXzen said he used a flat clear coat on his so I think that should help with durability. We shall see! I may try another rifle.
tsc91 9
How did you make your stencils? I just did a camo paint job on my brother's Saiga by using painter's tape for the stencils.
RobRez 1,896
I cut shapes out from a sheet of card stock from my printer with an xacto knife. I just held the stencil an inch from the rifle to avoid too many sharp edges on the brown and green. I held it real close after bending it for the lightest color, trying to simulate highlights on dry grass.
tsc91 9
I never liked the way that stock looked on rifles, but your paint job camouflages it nicely. Looks really good!

I agree 100 % on the stock!!! Replacement is coming very soon! Good thing I kept my stencils!
RobRez 1,896
Here is a photo from todays test run. The paint stood up to the high temps of several magazine dumps! I was happy with how well the camo blended in with the grass and dirt. Shot well also. Mostly at the metal gong targets!
Klassy Kalashnikov 1,393
Wow, that looks awesome man. I think if someone took your gun and put it on that grass back there while you were down range, you wouldn't be able to find it! Your job looks great and blends very nicely with the terrain!

22_Shooter 1,560
Shot well also. Mostly at the metal gong targets! I'm severely addicted to the sound of rounds hitting steel. PING! PING! PING!.............then when you take a horrible shot, and just nick the side, it sends the round tumbling and you hear "bzzzzzzzzzz".

Looks really good! Fully aligned on the stock outlook! A replacement is imminent, and it's a relief I held onto my stencils. Nrega
