i'm looking t get my first pistol soon, and I've been considering getting myself a sig sauer p226 chambered in the .357 sig.

thing is though that i'm not very familiar with pistol cartridges so i'd like som advice from more eexperienced people.

So i was wondering if anyone was familiar with or had any experiences with the manufacturer, gun or the caliber. any input would be appreciated.

You are honestly asking about the quality of a Sig Sauer P226?

Honestly?

In the small chance you've never heard of them, they're top drawer pistols and you won't find many complaints (if any) about them (aside from their cost).

As far as the .357 Sig, buying a pistol in this caliber allows easy cartridge conversions to .40 S&W (only requires a barrel change) and 9mm (requires barrel and magazine change).

I've got 2 handguns in .357 sig. A Sig Sauer and a Glock and both function fantastic. On the Sig you can use either .357 sig mags or .40cal mags to work. Centerfire arms always has them on sale. As far as finding ammo for it or the slighty high cost it seems. I would start reloading your own, you can get .357 sig brass cheap and never have to worry about being able to find it. That's what i do and it's much cheaper. Now someone correct me if i'm wrong on this but i thought they created this caliber to have similar ballistics of a .357mag but in a smaller cartridge and would be able to put it in a automatic. As far as reliability? Germans are known for their excellent firearms. You won't go wrong getting one.

If you like the Sig but not the price tag, may i suggest looking at an FNH FNP (.357 sig, 9mm or .40) they have ALOT of the same features as Sigs for quite a bit less money. The Belgians (FN) are also known for making fine firearms, yet they are too often overlooked.

A Sig for less.

thanks guys i appreciate the input.

@ nalioth

i had honestly never heard of sig sauer before a few months ago. Everyone i know sticks with their S&W, colt, beretta or browning pistols. I first came across it at a local gunsmith who doubles as a gun dealer. it looked nice, and shot well (in the 3 rounds i test fired it in) but i needed to ask before committing to buy it. I've seen too many people buy guns from other places that in 6 months seemed to fall apart in their hands.
