How 'bout those hot-rodded Dracos?

Recommended Posts

I forgot to ask you Cali, is that avatar Count Dracula? Or Vlad the Impaler I think was his real name? That's where the name Dracula originated I think. It's a variation of Draco or Dragon..I could be mistaken..Anyway PM me on that if you don't mind.

+1   This thread is for Draco porn. Not Valmets, not discussing GhostBuster villains, not catching up with fellow Commiefornians. Post Dracos or STFU!

UPDATE. Finally got it SBR'd

i never criticized you guido. i did not come to this forum with any intent to argue with other people. we are adults, and should be better than that.

if you show me respect i will do the same for you. if you are hostile towards me, il ignore you and continue to have polite conversations with the other members

Anyway back to the Dracos, I use a riggers folding tool which has a long curved tool that folds out like a jacknife and it is perfect for unlocking the mag catch through the access hole in the mag lock.I have a lanyard that I have on my wrist that I've been training with to see how fast I can change the mags.I also have one of the bullet key chains, the .30 06 and I also use that on occasion as it doesn't mar the catch too much and it's long for good leverage. Of course it is an AK weapon and not supposed to be pristine anyway. :lolol:

haha, yea thats the beauty of AK's, they are tough as hell. some people even think a little mud and scratches make them look better. personally, i try to keep all my firearms in the best possible shape, but my AK is a little beat up.

Hello

Thank you, WhiskeyMinion. I was feelin' like the lone asshole here for trying to subtly request that things be kept more or less on topic.

I don't think that's an unreasonable request.

I also think whoever posts should respect the OP's wish's. Dont clutter up someones Picture thread or any other thread with a bunch of crap nobody cares to read. It disrespectful and doesnt do anything for the forum but cause problems. Start your own thread and discuss your topic. This is a picture thread JIC anyone forgot.

Personally, I like to discuss guns. And motorcycles. And,maybe politics, but I try and reserve that for the proper forum.

Hello

That's totally schweet. I wonder how the woodie is hooked up to the folder. I pondered that myself for a while and couldn't come up with anything, not to mention that all the wood had tang cutouts. I'm sure Ironwood could cut a stock sans tang reliefs, though.

Still, can't imagine how to securely attach it.

Looks vicious.

I'm really liking how he rigged up the classic wood stock to the Ace folding mechanism. Might be sacrilege to the purists, but I think it's creative and looks great.

That is one sexy draco! I wonder if that's a barrel extension or if it's a new one. I'm glad someone else did the ace folder woodstock. I did the same on my s12. I'd prefer the left handed folder instead of my RH folder. But the RH allows for the scope mount to be functional, which I guess you wouldn't have on a draco. Thanks for posting shooter. Very nice!

I obviously used wood screws which have a taper. To accommodate that, I used a dremel with cone attachment and ground the inside of the folder so the screws would sit flush and allow the folder to correctly close. The gun in the pics looks like a better job than mine. But mine works great and I'm happy with it!

Oh, and I cut the internal part of the wood off and screwed into that.

Sounds like the owner of that Draco did the same thing AZG spoke of above:

well first i had to cut the wood tang off flush. then i took some wood screws that fit in the existing mounting holes, and screwed them through the block into the stock. its not as solid as a fixed stock. but it works for me. no extreme play in it, but the mechanism's minor wobbling, with the flat on flat connection, leaves room for a bit of movement. its not that noticeable unless you're looking for it, so it doesn't bother me. if you do do this i suggest trying it out with a $2 rommy butt stock or something till you know whats up.

Why turn a Draco into a non Draco with all those changes? That being said it does look pretty nice though

I thought the same thing. All that work to essentially end up with a regular Romy AK with less rifling in the barrel.

personally, id rather take a draco and put a collapsible stock on it, or maybe a folding skeleton stock, and put some nice red stain on the forearm guard.

Although it's not personally something I would do (aside from SBR'ing one), I can think of a few reasons:

- Maybe they already had the Draco, and then down the road, decided to turn it into a rifle. It'd be cheaper to buy the barrel extension and stock, than to buy a complete rifle.

- "Just because". As time goes by, I keep losing the need to have a real reason for things I want. If I want it and can afford it, I do it. "Because I want it" is more than enough reason for me to do something, or buy something.

I'm doing just that with mine. Already refinished a set of Polish handguards with reddish stain to make it match the bakelight pistol grip. I'm trying to get a definitive answer regarding compliance parts requirements on a NFA firearm. Some say you must be 922r compliant with a SBR although I know of many Bulgy Krinks out there with all foreign parts except for the receiver.

ETA: I have a Polish underfolder I want to put on it.

Still, you have the rifling of a short barrel with a piece of pipe attached to it so you still don't have a full length AK.

i think i have the solution to this problem.

buy at least 2 dracos, one with a collapsible stock, and a full size AK 47, and a full size AK74. and several S12's, SBS one with a collapsible stock.

when in doubt, just buy more guns!!

Hello

I was considering an underfolder on one of my SBR's. After some consultation with folks more experienced with them than I, my mind was changed.

No way to obtain a cheek weld was a big negative, chronic looseness another, lack of comfort a third reason I changed my mind.

They do look way cool, though. And they don't really interfere with any controls.

Decided if I was going to do something out of the mainstream, I'd put a wooden stock on it.

JMHO....

I have a couple questions I have not seen any pics of a Draco with a underfolder yet has no one posted one or did I miss it second has anyone tried using a VZ58 folding stock I have seen a AK74 Krink but not a Draco and if anyone has what are your thoughts about it. Also as for underfolders coming lose I have a Yugo M-92 that is tight as hell and if you want a good cheek weld samson makes a cheekrest for the underfolder.

Hello, SCHULTZE

I haven't seen one posted here, but it appears there's a bit of interest in that direction. There's another thread titled "How can I tell if my Draco has an underfolder trunnion" or something like that where listers are concerned about getting an underfolder on their Draco. I think the idea there is to go with an underfolder when they SBR theirs.

I haven't had any first hand experience with the underfolders. It seemed like a good combination to me, Draco and U/F, but the more I got into it, the more negatives I started hearing. Maybe I should've just done it anyway.

Respectfully,

-guido
