UPDATE. Finally got it SBR'd

i would love to get a draco, but apparently, california only allows 1 round mags for those. lame...... but at least we can still get full size AK's with 10 round mags, even if it needs a bullet button. its better than nothing

I've seen places selling CA compliant Dracos, with a bullet button installed. You sure they're limited to 1 round?

honestly, i havent really looked into it, but i know atlantic firearms sells them with 1 round mags, or as they call it, a zero round sled mag. i suppose i jumped to the conclusion that these firearms need to have 1 round mags to be california legal because of this.

heres the link to the specific product im talking about

Ok here is the deal on Cal legal AR/AK Pistols...

Two rules

1. Has to come into the state as a complete pistol, as a single shot pistol and mag lock.

2. Can be built into a pistol from scratch. 80% lower kit applies to both AR/AK.

You CANNOT buy an AR or AK and convert into a pistol.

You Can convert into a rifle from a pistol but not Rifle to Pistol.

Once your AR/AK comes into the State of Commie sorry California(through your FFL), you can remove the 1 shot sled and run your 10 round mags.

I bought my Draco through Peach State Guns and I had it sent here to the Left coast.

I bought an AR pistol through Atlantic Fire Arms and had it sent here to the left coast.

Educate yourself don't take my word. Talk to a few different FFL's and do your research on laws in your state and county. Not to promote Calguns. but they have a shit ton of info on Ca legal matters.

I hope that helps clear up any confusion.

thank you man, that does help alot. i definitely want to look into this just to make sure everything i do is legal, which basically is just putting 10 round mags on a draco. id like to put some kind of collapsible stock on it too, although ive got a feeling that is not legal in california.

yeah, not legal in ca.

unless you turn it into a rifle by adding a barrel extension to get it to 16" and its functioning length in greater than 30". Mod must be permanent, can be done without paper work and cannot be returned to a pistol configuration.

yea i had a feeling that wasnt allowed. its too bad, cause that would look pretty cool. but anyway, il just stick with my full size AK. its likely il eventually get a draco too, but im thinking il get a big bore revolver and a carbine AR10 first. then i suppose il get this really nice milled polish AK that atlanticfirearms.com has for sale.

honestly, if i had to choose between a draco and a full size AK, id go with the full size rifle

Hello

Finally got my AK pistols out of Form 1 jail.

Pretty much complete, the Red Jacket (folder) has a Red Jacket AK-AL supressor still waiting in Form 4 lockup waiting on paperwork from the federales, the Draco (w/ IronWood walnut) will have to get a dust cover mounted rear sight, that short radius is not gonna cut it.

The Draco got a Texas-AK double hook trigger along with the new rear trunnion, both have Galil charging handles to be welded on as well. The Red Jacket already had a G2 so I left it alone.

I stacked the bolts for the hinge plate to the rear trunnion on the R/J, both for added bolt strength and to eliminate any movement. The two allen-head bolts completely fill the opening in the hinge mounting plate, eliminating any chance of the hinge moving out of alignment.

I know this has been discussed at length here previously, but the rear trunnion that came out of my Draco was built like a friggen' hammer head. It weighed probably three times what the AK-74 trunnion that replaced it did. I posted a pic of the rear "plate" that one would be drilling and tapping for a stock installation. I would have no concerns whatsoever, you could pound nails with that sumbitch.

Hello, Vince

I had plenty of time to gather up materials and supplies, since it took 5 months for my paperwork to clear.

Got the old rivets punched out and the holes TIG'ed up Tuesday. Had to move the top holes about 1/8" forward, so I had to fill and redrill them too.

The riveting and recoating only took 6 hours or so, but I'm a bit of a novice at that.

Overall I'd say the trunnion change was about 10 hours, including welding, grinding, riveting, and recoating. An expert could probably do it in half that.

It is a sweet lookin' little gun, if I say so myself, and certainly the cheap way to get there.

Thanks,

-guido

Looking good Guido, no kidding with the rear trunnion. We went through 4 drill bits trying to punch through that.

nice job, how long did that modification take?

Yeah California is so left wing I felt like I was being returned to East Berlin after making it over the wall when I visited Arizona last year. Really depressed to learn what it's like in a free state. Open carry, concealed carry no problems. You feel like you are in control of your own life there unlike this socialist workers paradise.Like America used to be like.

I hear that! I had to sell my Mossy 590 shotgun to clear the way for my Draco..glad I did. If I get another shotgun it'll be a Saiga 12

yea, thats a reasonable trade. a draco is more appealing than a mossberg, although those can be pretty cool too. i really like the tactical gear you can put on a mossberg.

the only problem with guns though, you can easily spend alot of money. i remember a few months ago, i went into big 5 with the intent of buying a hat. i wandered over to the firearms dept, and wound up buying a tactical .22 AR15. it was the same story with my glock 19. i only meant to look, but ended up buying.

damn, thats a nice shotgun man!! i know how you feel about saigas though. no matter how tactical a pump shotgun is, its still not quite as appealing as a saiga, especially with 10 round mags.

Just got a Draco, had it sandblasted and refinished with new furniture and muzzle break, took it out yesterday and shot it, I wanted to use my 75 Rd. Drum, but only had time to use a couple of 30 rd. mags...loud, fun gun to shoot but strictly a close combat gun. will post pic's when I can.

heh, sorry guys, didnt mean to go off topic. anyway though, heres a pretty cool draco that i could get. its very affordable too. although, i think it would be really cool to put a quad rail on it, and some kind of traditional laser pointer style sight. maybe a skeleton stock too, although it would need a longer barrel on it too, to make it legal in california.

i believe so. nice standard unit. that particular picture makes the thing seem deceptively smaller than it actually is.

you know, its really too bad california has such liberal laws with firearms, because that draco would be really cool with a folding wire stock.

Hello

Hope nobody minds if we get back to modified Dracos.....

Here's my Draco SBR's "Rev.2". I just couldn't get behind the M.I. handguard/Docter RDS combo on the Red Jacket gun, had to go back to the ol' standby Ultimak/Aimpoint combo. Also had to add a touch of wood, can't stay away from the wood (not to be misconstrued....)

Added the Tromix Galil-style chargers, forgot about the dust cover mod's until reassembly (hard to ignore at that point) which are a nice Krink-like touch I think.

Still waiting on the R.J. can, that should pretty much finish these two off. Hell, the can is not much longer than the brake on the R/J.

Oh, also added Mojo clickers in place of the OEM rear sights. I just like the adjustability, plus the open style.

Reckon that's about it.

Hello, YEL13

I take no credit for the beautiful wood, that walnut craftsmanship came from Ironwood Designs. I simply sanded it lightly and rubbed a few coats of Tung oil on it.

But thanks fer' noticing!

I've been contemplating on SBRing my spare Draco. I was cleaning out the safe when I found my old Butler Creek folder for an 870. Upon mock up I found it has a decent cheek weld and would be easy to attach "if" I get her a stamp*

What do you guys think. It definetly looks different**
