TO THE FLOOR IN A 63 121
I have what some might consider a collectible handgun. But the finish in is pretty bad condition...real worn....I mean 50%. My gunsmith will reparkerize it for $155 which I think is reasonable. Now everyone has heard that you take the collectability out of a gun by refinishing it but is that something I need to worry about on a 50% gun??? And if I decide I have to sell it down the road would you shy away because a gun had been refinished and can you tell???
Snoofer 138
what do you have? how old and rare is it?

Snoofer 138
oh, ok. i saw it in the handgun pic thread, cool piece. if you plan on selling down the road you might wanna leave it like it is. Edited June 11, 2010 by Snoofer
Shandlanos 1,470
Seconded. As a collector, I find a worn original piece much more attractive than a refinished piece.
kresk 10,063
Yep--leave it alone or you'll destroy the collector value. Yesterday I saw a nice Nazi proofed Belgian Browning HP.
ChileRelleno 7,071
X4, doing anything except the most professional repair/replacement of parts, detracts from it's value. Edited June 12, 2010 by ChileRelleno
patriot 7,197
Clean it oil it and skip it.
bigj480 203
Leave it. If you are worried about the value then it's the smart thing to do. Even if it looks pretty bad, the buyer could always have it refinished, but he can never get that original finish back.
bigsal 757
A buddy of mine can re-blue it for $50, your getting burnt on the price. PM me if you wanna destroy its value in such a way. There is no need for you to get ripped off by some slick Spokane area gunsmith...
Stansplace 414
DO NOT mess with it. It will devalue the gun by 80 percent.
TO THE FLOOR IN A 63 121
Ok I'm going to get slammed here but I am soooo happy this couldn't have worked out better. As usual I disreguarded everyone's advise and had the gun reparkerized and I am soooo pleased that I did. I think the gun came out great and wouldn't hesitate to do another one... Here are the before and after pictures... All the finish was wiped clean from the right side of the slide What is my personal gun worth...priceless Edited June 26, 2010 by TO THE FLOOR

BronCobraJet 80
Hey, It's your gun, and you can't take it with you, and it means nothing to you when you are planted in the ground. Do with it what you want and enjoy it. It's a gun, it was meant to be shot. Same with the people that have "rare" muscle cars. It's a car. It was meant to be driven. Enjoy it while you can. Do whatever the hell makes you happy doing with it, and enjoy the memories.
elvis christ 451
Ehhh, I think the second pic looks better than the last 2, personally.
ChileRelleno 7,071
As a collectible, it's value is greatly degraded... Tis a shame. As just another pistol, its great... Enjoy!
BronCobraJet 80
I think the second pic looks better to, but that's not the point. The point is, it's his gun to do with what he pleases.
Paulry 50
Melt it down into pencils for retards! It's yours, do as you wish. Just wondering why you cared to ask for opinions? FWIW Damn nice weapon.
