Kilryth 0
I bought a Power Custom retainer plate (similar to Kreb's custom plate), and it can't be installed in my SAIGA. I am using an Arsenal (USA) FCG and the SAIGA selector. The selector can't be installed after the FCG - it catches on the disconnector. It can't be turned backwards b/c it catches on the rear trunnion. What's the best/safest way to make this function without causing other problems?
jimdigriz 580
I think you should be able to make this work. If you pull the trigger when you are turning the safety lever, you should be able to clear the disconnector.
leadslinger 37
what Jim said. the power retainer plates should be super easy as it just slides in the retainer pin groves. The safety lever may need some light encouragement as you pull trigger turn safety lever up it should pass over disconnecter with some friction. I don't remember if i had to take a little of the bottom right edge of the safety lever of the 7.62 when i installed the G2 trigger. I know i did with the S12 conversion. If there is no way that the safety lever will move then you will have to file the right edge of the safety lever to pass over the arm of the trigger that the hammer mainspring rests on. take your time as you don't need much. If you get too carried away you may render the safety lever useless and have to spend another 25 bucks. http://www.powercustom.com/RedStar/ShepardsCrook-Installation.htm Edited June 24, 2010 by leadslinger
Kilryth 0
I pushed on it hard last night while holding the trigger down, but the selector never went down. I polished both the disco and the selector with course emery cloth, and that didn't help either. Sounds like I will need to file the selector. Do I file the left side of the selector at the point of contact with the disconnector?
leadslinger 37
take the but stock off look through the back of the weapon to see where the safety is being hindered. My guess it will be on the right side leg of the trigger legs where the hammer mainspring rests. http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/Step_7.htm read down to paragraph 8. see how the hammer spring sits on the right side of the trigger? same side as the safety lever. I think that is where your lever is hanging up. hope this helps. more references: even better shot of what i am talking about: 5th pic downhttp://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/saiga/saiga-8.htm http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=51907&st=0&p=484968&hl=+safety%20+lever&fromsearch=1entry484968 Edited June 24, 2010 by leadslinger
Kilryth 0
Thanks! It's catching on the disconnector right now - I'll try filing that part down first. It shouldn't catch on the trigger, since I can install the selector with just the trigger installed & no disconnector. Thanks for the clarification!
leadslinger 37
you filed the safety lever correct? Mine does have some contact on the disconnecter as it is being installed but with a little push it clears and then the right trigger leg needs to be cleared. Not by much. Just enough to allow safety lever to work. It is at this point that the safety lever works. When you raise the safety lever it blocks the right leg of the trigger and keeps it from lifting and consequently keeping the trigger from releasing. Once you push the safety lever down it moves behind the trigger leg and allows trigger to work. Let us know how its going. Pics Sorry about the link not working. scroll down the the saiga .223 conversion title then page through great pics and description of parts. http://www.stu-offroad.com/siteindex.asp Edited June 24, 2010 by leadslinger
re-model 11
might sound a little strange...but put your safety lever in and rotate it toward the rear counter clock wise. swing it around from under and ppull it out just enough to clear the stop. I learned this trick years ago with factory disconector that still had a partial tail. hope this helps.
