Old SF MJT 7
Folks, I am in the process of putting together the pieces & parts needed for the conversion of my stock Saiga to an AK-style firearm and need a little info. I have been looking a the compliance parts sets listed on Tapco.com. They list a single hook and a two-hook style FCG. What is the difference? Is one any better than the other? Is one more difficult to install than the other? Thanks in advance for the info.
IndyArms 10,186
GO with the single hook.... easier to install, as the doubles require an extra groove in the receiver. no real difference in performance... The G2 FCG's are TOP NOTCH!!!! smooth and crisp.. will really lighten up the trigger pull on the saiga!
k_dawg 0
Look at this dimension sheet for a single hook trigger hole See the small notch? That is to clear a single hook trigger. If you use a double hook, you need to add a similar notch on the other side. What is a hook? The trigger has a "hook" that latches onto the hammer. In this picture, it is the upper left side of the trigger. a single hook has just one on the left top side of the trigger. a double hook has two, one left and right.. so it grips the hammer in two locations. This helps prevent the hammer for being twisted, and results in a smoother pull. The tiny extra work is worth it, IMHO. I also polished the contact points between the hook and hammer, and its real smooth now. all images courtesy of http://www.cross-conn.com/saiga_conversion/index.htm
vjor 2
Well this I s what it is, the single hook was made to fit stamped receivers, the double hook was made for milled receivers, they both will fit the stamped receiver, like the brothers says, on the double, U have to cut another notch on the receiver bottom to accommodate the double hook, and for looks and function, is your choice, some people like double hooks, some like single hooks, the single is easy to install not need to cup any groove or notch on receiver bottom.
