paprotective 362
Picked up my 3/31/2009 Saiga S308-1 today.. 21" version... (93mm factory spread / 3.66 inch) aka Janis... And 1 Box of Winchester 150gr Power-Point ammo.. The muzzle looks more like my 7.62x39 end (which may have threads as I have ALL the other features for that) It does not look like this IMO... >>>>>> http://www.dinzagarms.com/saiga_308/308fsb.html Any suggestions for me on this?? I don't want to thread it now, but want to know if others have this same type of END on theres?? Maybe this is an older style barrel without the end cap hanging 'over'.?? Feel free to chime in.. please.. Albert
paprotective 362
Also notice the recoil spring has a 'swinging' buffer type arm/block on it near the rear tab.. Can't wait till Sunday to go test her out.. Saiganov conversion planned for Sunday night... starting small on her... ... funds are sooo tight.. Got a 15 rounder coming in from csspecs and 1 of his rebuild kits for my factory mags.. Still debating on handguards... Anyone got any ideas on the muzzle thing?? paprotective 362
Ok.. reading the book.. it says CaNra-308-1 version 02.. On the RAIL side it has Made in Russia by IZHMASH and Russia American Armory Company Scottsburg, IN (looks cheezy) On the bolt handle side.. I have SAIGA-308-1 and under that CANRA-308-1 stamped on it.. On the Izhmash Russia site for the 308-1 version 02 shows a flash hider on the end of THAT model and barrel.. hmmm.. Maybe I got the barrel for the Russian version 02.. without the flashider?? I used a ruler and the inside of the flush end is about 5/8" across.. I dunno... Anyone know?? Albert yes mine is just like yours!!!! jtboss 0
Mine is the same. I converted mine back to the AK style and added a Beryl scope mount from Carolina Shooters Supply. Put a Barsaka 2X scope on it and it is very accurate,2 moa with Radway Green surplus ammo. That is good enough for any situation I should encounter.Have fun it's a great rifle.Oh BTW,I also put a Mako shock absorbing adjustable stock on it and it makes a lot of difference in the recoil-would highly reccommend it. jimdigriz 580
Saiganov conversion planned for Sunday night... starting small on her... ... funds are sooo tight.. What kind of stock are you going to use? Are you going with a wood PSL-like buttstock?
308SAIGA 55
Mine is like the 2nd pictured, with the additional 3/8" tang and like the PDF from dinzagarm... You may indeed have a threaded muzzle......
paprotective 362
Gun_lover.. hoping you may be right.. Love when they find NOS parts in Russia and just toss them on sometimes.. Jim.. I went with the Drag type stock I had gotten for like $20 at a local funshow back in Feb.. (Pic is bigger.. click to view larger version) Currently (for show) sporting the 6x32 scope I have laying here for my 5.45x39 Saiga.. A new 3-9x40 or 6-24x44 or 4-16x50 scope should dress her up nicely. I can go with Bushnell BDC (easy and like $110) set for 100-500 yards with a click. or a mil-dot and I have to figure the drop... Too many choices.. Trying to keep the scope under $125.. (got another post on that running) Albert
308SAIGA 55
It is going to be very hard to find a scope with those powers (6x24 or 6x16) that can take the abuse of the semi-auto 308, regardless if they state shock proof.... I purchased a Barska sniper rated to 50 cal paid $300+- and I have to send it back again.... I was told about the BSA platinum, and that is would withstand the shock. If I where you and are interested in the BSA I would contact them before you get it and tell them what your plans are... I would hate to recommend something and it turns out to be junk and have another person here pissed at me.....
Rhodes1968 1,638
The Russian scopes made for use with the 54R rifles will handle the 308 easily but they are heavy so might want to take that into consideration. If you have a brake on it that pulls the barrel forward to compensate for recoil it reduces a lot of the stress on the scope.
devrussell 1
Has anyone ever found thread on their S-308? Is there a way to know w/o cutting off the FSB?
Klassy Kalashnikov 1,393
Has anyone ever found thread on their S-308? Is there a way to know w/o cutting off the FSB? The threads are found on x39's because the threaded military barrels sometimes get mixed into the civilian line. There are no factory threaded 308/545/223 as those calibers don't have threaded barrels in the military designation.
devrussell 1
OK, that's what I thought. Thanks.
