steve 1
I shot my 7.62 x39 saiga last weekend with Wolf steel case FMJ ammo and noticed that the spent cases had a deformation around the neck of the case. I have never seen this with brass shell cases fired in the other rifles I have shot. Remingtion 30-06. pump action and a Sig-Colt 30-06. bolt action. Is this common with an autoloading millitary type action or is it the steel case ammo? Will brass casings deform also? I am thinking about reloading brass shells for the saiga and it looks like a lot of work to resize the shells. Any informatin on this would help.

k_dawg 0
Yep. It is "by design". I find that the side of the cartridge will also get "nicked" upon ejection.
SaigaShooter 0
I may be wrong, But isn't the nicking from the shell hitting the reciver cover on it's way out of the gun.
steve 1
Verry Intresting thanks for the info. I'm going to do a search before posting another question, seens like everything you ever wanted to know about a Saiga is in this site. I also have the dents on the side of the cases from hitting the cover on the way out, but I already knew about that from you guys here. Thanks again!

Probably. it's great, my cartridges eject like 20feet @2 oclock. when the RO calls to "sweep up your brass", I always am a dick and tell him.. "Mine are not brass, do you want me to sweep up my steel?" hahaha
Bvamp 604
for steel shells i use a big magnet on a steel plate with a rope on it to pick them out of grass. you need a pretty potent one to not lose the shells off of it, but it works damn good. ever ran empties over with a lawnmower? i tell ya, those suckers can really fly if you hit em right. one could weld a set of lawnmower wheels on it and use it indoors and not stir up all kids of dust, or so the grass doesnt get torn up from a 30 pound magnet. the cases like to stick to the magnet on end, so if you had one on wheels for use on concrete, you would probably want it to be a huge magnet and make sure it can pick up shells 6" from the floor. you guys that shoot high volumes of rounds like me should have one of them to clean up with. f raking. steve 1
Bvamp that is a really great idea about the magnet I shoot in tall grass and I think it will work great! I can get realy strong magnets at a surplus house nearby and mount it on a stick or broom handle.
