cw3sting 12
I wanted to share some measurements to help others who are tired of guessing their rifle's ballistics based on published data. Here are my measurements today for the Wolf 62gr FMJ, Hornady 75gr Match HP, and Silver Bear 62gr HP.
essohbe 47
How is a Wolf 62gr going slower than a SilverBear 62gr? The hollowpoint makes it go faster? I would expect the FMJ to.
Alexc.s. 25
Maybe the HP gives it a golf ball effect? Little air bubble may help somehow.
dobravery 49
Maybe the HP gives it a golf ball effect? Little air bubble may help somehow. Or it could just be loaded hotter.
MD_Willington 11
IIRC the small cavity does make it go faster and it is more stable in flight, the cavity in the tip shift the center of gravity further back, giving a better BC and resists crosswind deflection. Look at the match king ammo, similar bullet shape
bigdv 2
I definitely have better accuracy with hollow points out of my 223 saiga.
PinkFloyd 63
Man that Silver bear stuff is loaded pretty hot.
jimdigriz 580
Pretty disappointing to see the large spread between the published figures and the actual. Especially for the Hornady, a variant of which I use for home defense.
christcorp 26
Haven't done any research; but is it possible that the rated velocities is out of a 20" barrel. I know manufacturers like to make the BEST CLAIMS possible to look good. But they are pretty good and being "Technically Correct". Those velocities could be out of a >20" bolt action .223 rifle for all we know. Then again: I admit that I haven't researched. The claims could be based on a 16" semi-auto. MD_Willington 11
Good thing I bought a boat load of the silver bear when it was dirt cheap...
Spikester 93
I have fired Silver Bear and Wolf in my Mini 14 and the Bear seems hotter, the Wolf is just dull, Bear pops.
