Going for the AK-102 look

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever thought of buying a front sight block/gas block combo like on the AK-102/104 rifles? I was thinking of pressing off the FSB and gas block and putting one of these on my Saiga in place of the gas block. I thought this would be easier than replacing the whole barrel with the parts already installed.

Who has removed the FSB/GB on their Saiga? How hard is it to do without a press?

Here is the link to the FSB/GB at K-var: http://www.k-var.com/product.asp?0=216&1=235&3=677

Let me know what you guys think.

I thought about that when I saw that too. But the barrel on my 223 is .618, probably .610 on bare metal or so, not .565. Even under the front sight block the barrel is bigger than .565 mine reads .595. Everything I have read is the barrels on the 7.62x39 and the 223 are the same outside dimentions. You would have to cut and turn the barrel down to make that work.

And then you will have to come up with some way to make it 16" because the 102 is like a 12" barrel.

As far as getting the front sight off, I used a press to get my front sight block off, it may have been possible without, but it was a tough push even with it. It may be possible if you soak it up with breakfree and twist it to break it loose before you try knocking it off.

Oh, ok. I dont have a set of calipers or anything to measure my barrel with. I think I should use the 50 bucks I would have spent on that to buy a scope mount instead. Thanks.

I took both front sight and gas block off of mine using a rubber hammer and wd-40 to be able to handguard retainer on then knockedthem back on with no probem, you can call Chris at ak-103.com and ask him about the ak-104 look that fits on just like the front sight same dia ,the only reason you would turn the barrel down is if you use a krink frontsight/gasblock the ak-104 is the same as the dia as the barrel you have but you with have to drill a new retainer pin for it no big deal.the part you have listed is a rominan part look under gas port section and you will see the part you need http://www.k-var.com/product.asp?0=216&1=235&3=456 you dont have to cut the barrel just make a metal tube to tread on the tread that covers you barrel ,I working on this project now

I am trying to decipher your post Shotgunman, are you talking about that gas block you linked to and a fake can up front?

You will still have to cut the barrel wont you? Or does the barrel fit through the threaded end of the gas block?

remember, any barrel attachment used to make the overall barrel length greater than 16" must be permanently attached.

ok picture your standard saiga without the front sight from the gas block forward is what I am talking about covering witha fake tube the barrel will still be legal lenghtand the gasblock will slide right thru the one I linked to like this pic but with the saiga
