Hey all, I am putting finishing touches on my conversion and a while back I purchased a UTG ergonomic vertical foregrip and now I'm not quiet sure but I may regret the purchase. I don't have any experience with fore grips as I have no other gun that has one in my collection but I have this thing on the rail right now and I'm noticing there a good deal of wobble side to side and there's only a small plastic nub that secures it when you tighten it to the rail...did I just buy crap or what? Is this common with this fore grip. I really liked how it looked and how it feels I just don't want it to fall apart on me...:\

They don't hold up so well. I had one on my S12. The plastic nub didn't hold up .. it sheared right off when using the foregrip to help resist recoil. Then I bought this one:

The construction is top notch. Very rigid and tough. Great grip. The only thing I don't like is that it has no storage.

UTG is generally regarded as low quality gear. But for a VFG, there's not much to screw up usually, so I actually wouldn't worry about brands when it comes to those, specifically. But if it's wobbling, it's no good, IMO.

I love my Tango Down grips, mainly for how it locks up tight and the fact that it's not the kind that tightens with a bolt coming up from the bottom. That way, you can cut them to length. I've stumbled upon many a cheap/used TD grip and if it's not stubby (which I prefer over the full length), it's easy to cut down.

Those SOG grips linked to above do look comfy. I've eyeballed them quite a bit while browsing random vendor sites.

Tango Down, Troy or LaRue are the only VFG that I will use. I have tried TAPCO, OK on regular AK's and Ergo (also OK). If you want the Bipod also (minimal use on the S-12) the REAL Grip Pod is also quality. Be careful of the Airsoft versions that are all over the internet.

Man, that sucks. More money to spend I guess cause I don't want to break it before I can sell it, I am interested in one of these two to replace it.

Could those of you that have had experience with either of these on the S12 tell me what you like about each one? I hate to spend that much on the foregrip but I don't want something thats just gonna fall apart when I shoot it.

My personal advice? Go with a standard non-QD Tando Down, as they're cheaper than the QD version, but still lock up tight. That's assuming you don't need to keep removing/installed the grip on multiple guns, as the standard TD grip can be a bitch to get on/off (but that's all the better for knowing it's not going to fall off from 12ga recoil).

Troy makes top quality gear too, so I wouldn't hesitate on anything from Troy. But looking at the picture, it looks metal? Weight might be a factor. TD is polymer and pretty light. Also, IIRC, the Troy is pretty pricey.

I'd get a membership at AR15.com, if you don't already have one, and browse the Equipment Exchange for used VFG's (I've gotten 2 or 3 different like-new TD VFG's for about $25 each). There's always tons of people getting rid of tons of stuff.

I have 2 of the Tango Down QD versions (stubbies), one on my S-12 (see my Avatar) and another on a Krebs Custom AK. Both are rock solid, but pricey around $85. I have 3 Troys for my other AR's and misc. rifles. They are very nice and modular(around $65), so you can have them short or long. Very nice, I really like the FDE color!.
