"I have yet to see any one come up w/ viable homemade mag yet. Now we're talking double stack!? I'm not holding my breath for it."

I think it is fun to read old posts when their brought out. This is a good one. You can see what used to be available and compare it to now. And what people used to think and what we have learned.

I dont think a double stack mag would ever be possible for a 12 unless the gun industry makes a rimless 12 gauge round and that ain't gonna happen. Take a look at the inside of a Saiga mag or even a Knoxx drum. You'll notice that as part of the design there is a groove in there that the cartridge rim is meant to ride in. On the Saiga magazine that groove keeps the shells nicely in line until it reaches the top where the groove opens up and allows the that top shell to slide a little bit forward of the one beneath. This is essential for the Saiga to strip off that top round and chamber it.

1stRanger if you are reading this, I believe that is what went wrong with your conversion attempt. The grooves of your donor tower and the Knoxx aren't lined up properly and it causes some kind of binding to occur and the top round doesn't slide forward enough or at the right angle until you only get two rounds left. Those two rounds feed just fine correct? That's because they are no longer misaligned in the Knoxx and are up in the Saiga donor tower. I think that's where Flogger got his conversion right, he cut out the back portion of the metal Knoxx tower which allowed correct alignment of the grooves. At least that's my theory based on observing my own screw ups.

Oh, and I'll take whatever I can get that holds five or more rounds and works reliably. Thank you.

I've been talking about that for years. You could still use a plastic hull(thank god for high temperature nylon). Just modify the rim.

Thing is though, the industry doesn't give a flying &*$% about the private consumer, because they know eventually the feds will finally win the "gun rights war". It won't be untill the military demands a rimless shotgun shell, that we will see one.

We'll just have to make the son of a bitch ourselves :chris:

Back to the grindstone...

We were talking about rimless 12GA rounds some time ago, and 50 cal brass looks like the perfect donor. However I hate double stacks, unless they are alternate feed. Might be do-able on a SAIGA but the magwell will have a hole like the fleet's favorite whore!

I just scaned over this thread here is my suggestion for mag design look at the 22 LR mags on the market and scale them up. 22 LR are rimed just like shotguns shells and they work fine. My only concern with some of the ideas out there like the double stack is the rims would get caught on each other and screw up the works.

But single stack 8 rd mags are fine with me. Eight in the stack and one in the pipe.

I vote for the 8 round Izhmash. Hard to find and expensive though. The best of both worlds, good amount of rounds and not too long. Even the AGP 10 seems long to me but I use them. I wish AGP would come out with a 8 rounder that was shorter. The MD20 won't allow me to fold my ACE.

I vote for leaving dead threads dead. No one is collecting information on a pet magazine project anymore!

We're going to have to create a wall of shame for thread reincarnators ...

But, since we are creating zombie threads that won't die ... I vote 100. Seems like it would be convenient for dumping in the value packs. I think birdshot is all that we'll need to protect us from zombie threads...

Someday they will make that wagon wheel drum for you!

The problem isn't really zombie threads, becaws i would just as soon see someone piggyback another thread as make a new one for the same question or one related. Its useless polls that someone votes on and it goes to the top of the lost. If they could be voted on and not go into the most recent threads query, all would be well.

besides, isn't it nice once in a while to be reminded of where we came from to enjoy what we have? theres no mention of the MD 20 or the surefire 12rnders in this. We are doing so awsome for mag options, isn't life great?

I'd go with the 10rd compact drum from chaos soon as they're done with production. Its a very interesting design and will sell like hotcakes laced with LSD. Sorry for the hype  .

Will the up comming chaos drums accept both 2 3/4in and 3in shells?

I like the 8 round configuration a lot. I used a Saigatech magazine adapter plate on one of my AGPs to make it an 8-round mag and am thinking about doing more. I am pretty sure that Tromix makes one as well. It seems the ideal length like this! It is a shame that this is not a factory AGP option!

I'm pretty sure you already know this, because I think I've seen you post on it, but for everyone else's sake...........It is a factory option now. AGP now makes 6 and 8 round mags. For anyone interested.

I would have to agree, factory Izhmash 8rd magazines are the absolute best. I actually have some of these for sale in the marketplace if anyone wants. Only problem is, they are very rare, and pricey because of it.

Yeah, I guess that they got the idea from seeing mine.... :D

They all have there function that is why they have them in all sizes shapes and color.

2 rnds... Some ranges and hunting rules specify

5 rnds... Pretty standard shotgun good for mobility and tactical

8 rnds... Better than 5 and still can shoot in tactical situations

10 rnds... Getting a little donkey but less reloading at the range and who likes to spend all that time reloading?

12 rnds... Definetly donkey "D" but limited to the non-socialistic states (but now your shoulder is sore from slaming all those rounds in one swoop and you wish you were reloading instead)

I won't even go into modified mags b/c you are way too cool or have too much time and money if you are slicing and dicing!

If you like drums

20-30 rnds... you really hate to reload but you're the guy or gal standing at the range with biggest smile... or you're really ready to just f* somthing up and like to watch your whole pay check go up in a cloud of smoke.

If you like the clear ones you like to taunt bad guys with how many rounds you have left or you are a lousy count and can't remember how many rounds you have left. Or maybe if you are one of those "tacticool" people shooting a mixed lot of ammo and trying to stay on top of slug or shot order.

There I think we have solved the mag count discussion. I am sure if I left anything out someone will gladly chime in. :zorro:

People used to doubt reliable drums were possible but look now. And the same will soon be true for the double stacks as well.
